The Lighthouse outing epitomized the picnic experience. The location on the cliffs overlooking the ocean, the exquisite lunch, provided blanket, ocean breeze, and scenery provided my wife and I with a memory that will last a life time. The min walk went by quickly...as many stops were taken to snap a photo. Once there the lunch was ready in a matter of minutes; this was Sept, I can only imagine how busy this place would be in July or August. Book in advance, but definitely put this destination on your trip itinerary. After lunch my wife and I spent time relaxing on our blanket overlooking the ocean. At one point we both even nodded off as the tranquility that surrounded us helped was very soothing.

We booked our picnic well in advance of our trip to ensure we could enjoy the experience, and we’re glad we did. The meal was delicious, and the fresh-baked smells wafted around the lighthouse as we enjoyed the views and waited for them to open....(Some people bring their own picnic, which would be more affordable, but it’s worth paying for the home-cooked goodness and unique experience). It’s quite a hike or drive to the parking lot up the hill, and you cannot directly access the site without a substantial hike or paying round trip for a ride in an side-by-side. We were grateful for that option as my mom has a bad knee and we wouldn’t have been able to access the lighthouse otherwise. Be sure to bring binoculars and good walking shoes, as were were able to watch Minke whales and seals, and there are great walking trails from the lighthouse. I would consider this a must-do activity, even for the price!

Not my first time here, and forgot how much of a walk there is, lots to see on the way to the lighthouse. Please book ahead, very busy in the summer. IF you have any physical limitations use the ATV (it’s an extra cost but...worth it Staff are very friendly and helpful. The picnic is a choice of three sandwich options and all come with a side dish, desert and lemonade. There are a few picnic tables and option to sit inside, majority grab a blanket and sit on the ground. It’s an hours drive from St. John’s. A must for any tourist.
