The Purple Door Tea Room is a hidden gem in the Metro Detroit area. My experience, tea and food was wonderful. Very enjoyed the tea room and look forward to the return. Very recommended! View all feedback.
As for dietary restrictions, they inquire about any when you make a reservation. I'm not certain what specific options they offer, but I do know that you need to reserve a seat at least two hours in advance. I believe they prepare your food during that time (since everything is served quite quickly), which likely allows them to accommodate any dietary needs or concerns you may have.
*Note: Be sure to inform them of any dietary restrictions before your reservation!* Vegetarian options: They have a wonderful selection of hearty vegetarian soups and sandwiches. You won’t find any cheap salad substitutes or plain cheese sandwiches here; they serve real, flavorful vegetarian dishes made specifically for vegetarians. Just remember to let them know in advance of your reservation!
I highly recommend this place! They expertly accommodated my gluten-free request for the Afternoon Tea service, making it delicious. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was lovely. Note: They can accommodate dietary restrictions with prior notice.
Very nice set up! Easily accommodated or large group. Nostalgic furniture and pictures. The circus looking dolls really didn't fit the decor as set up, but perhaps would have been great in another setting. Beautiful exterior. Would love to attend with a smaller group, to enjoy the esthetics of the surroundings. The scones were fresh, tasty and delicious (wish we were offered more, only had one a piece) The mushroom soup was delicious! OMG! the run cake was superb! Salad was fresh and delicious, to include chicken salad. Portions were small. Very nice porcelain tea settings! Perhaps I'm unfamiliar with the correct intake of tea but I think honey and perhaps agave should be offered as sweetners along with the sugar/ sweetener packs. I like the way in which the meal was introduced and explained. Servers were very cordial and attentive. Understand this is a tea room, no coffee, no juice, no sodas... they have tea. Not quite sure how many offerings of tea they have not types, because of the function we had, the types were pre- selected as black and herbal. It would be more appealing if the individuals at each table could select the tea or perhaps have a selection process for introducing tea to people as an experience. The menu online is very confusing and seems costly, may deter guest. I'd like to experience again, but not certain how, based on how the menu is reflective. They must take into consideration that bit everyone is okay with consuming alcohol, offer alternatives to the tim cake or the soup or dish prepared with wine.Vegetarian options: Upon requestKid-friendliness: Child must be disciplined to not touch the nice things that are set around. Must be able to sit without bumping the tables as many have settings on them that are porcelain or glass. Very nice place to dress up and have a classy outingParking: In the midst of the neighborhood and business area. Parking limited on the residential street and in main street there's a few spaces. Approx 5 spaces in rear where entrance isWheelchair accessibility: Spaces are tight thing to the main dining area, so I'd let them know ahead of time that space will be needed so the arrangements can be changed around for easy maneuvering of a wheel chairDietary restrictions: Servers somewhat asked about dietary restrictions, however I would call ahead to check menu to assure a good experience
Small servings- Servers were not readily available for asking for more water or hot tea. Ambience was excellentFood: 3/5
