What Severin Schwab doesn't like about Gasthof Ochsen:
we ate there while we stay in the paradies. a suggestion to get reservations. for a restaurant in a remote location it is overfilled. probably because it's great to eat. in portions are more American than German. I had carved carving, mixed vegetables and rosti (a huge potato pancake.) the wife had a mixed salad (smoking) with many greens, pickled vegetables etc. eating was great, service, while in German, was excell... This restaurant is great. the garden around the house is worth a visit. they can sit in this beautiful garden with so many flowers round and enjoy really nice eating. I would say they cook classic South German kitchen. beautifully made and fresh. beautiful place for a Sunday dinner. we're coming back. but they should definitely reserve a table.
We arrived quite late and could immediately go to our table and enjoy the very good menu. we checked after dinner and found a very pleasant and clean room with comfortable beds and the latest bathroom facilities. the breakfast was again rich and of...very good quality
Thanks to the lovely warm summer climate, Baden Wurttemberg boasts an enormous number of restaurants with beautiful outdoor settings. Just when I think I have seen the prettiest, I find another, as was the case recently with the Gasthof Ochsen. A beautiful setting off the beaten...track, this has everything to ensure you have a lovely experience delicious food and wines, attentive service and a beautiful garden. Our lunch on a sunny day was a treat, and quite different from what you would expect of a place in the middle of nowhere. Your meal gets underway with an 'amuse bouche ' from the kitchen, and then we shared a starter of brawn in aspic with a herb sauce and 'Rösti ' potatoes. My husband enjoyed the octopus and thyme potatoes, and I had the sauteed goose liver. The restaurant offers small and large portions which is great when you are keen to try as much as possible!
What can be better than going for dinner on a snowy white evening to a village inn/restaurant where the food is delicious and the decor soo very cosy??!! It was a wonderful experience....the snow outside and all the Christmas lights and Christmas trees, then the...warm ambience inside. It has been in the hands of the same family for 250 years and has been a restaurant all this time. How can it not be cosy?? Low ceilings, wooden beams, an old green enamelled furnace (don't actually know what it is called), a decorated Christmas tree, wooden seating all around and old household items used in the decor. And, above all that, we had a delicious meal. I chose the menu soup, main course and dessert for 26E. All perfect. I cannot recommend the Ochsen enough. If you are ever in this area of Germany, I highly recommend you to visit. I understand it is also a guesthouse, but, we did not see the rooms so I cannot say anything, but, judging from the restaurant, it must be a very authentic and special experience to stay here.
