This has always been my favorite Japanese restaurant, but the service was 9/10 times extremely slow. I’m happy to report though that 5 years later, the service has substantially improved! Food is awesome as always. View all feedback.
What charles owens doesn't like about East Japanese:
I usually love the food but this time I couldn’t actually get any. We got there at 5:40 when they opened at 5:30, were seated, then ignored until 6:30pm when we decided to give up and leave. I love the (admittedly slow) food but I really need them to fix their service. View all feedback.

Wonderful food. Very authentic. Something very hard to find in Knoxville. The service was a little slow due to them being understaffed, and very busy, but nonetheless very friendly. The place needs a little renovation, but overall great place to go out on date night for good Japanese food, and sushi. The Sashimi was fresh and delicious, and their ramen is delicious.
Incredible place. The best Japanese food I’ve ever had served in a setting that seems far away from Kingston pike. I’ll be back. Probably tomorrow and the next day. Ask for the chef’s choice nigiri. Unbelievably good.
My husband and I love this place and come every other month. The owner is japanese and the food is like the one we got when we visited Japan. The eel is especially delicious, much better than the Americanized sushi you get in other places in Knoxville. The people complaining about the service are just expecting an American server style, which won't happen and I much more prefer it this way. My tea cup is still always refilled and he is always nice, not just overbearing or pushing. We love it and hope it thrives forever.
This place gets way too much hate for being “slow.” The food is literally a perfect piece of authentic Japanese cuisine. I prefer the fact that they don't conform to American sensibilities. Here, my family can dine in peace for as long or as little as we like with absolutely delicious food. Thank you for your service East Japanese!
