The best polenta cakes ever. Sour cherry and pistachio is my favourite. Delicious coffee also. Always an event to stop by and pick up the goodies. So many choices and such wonderful hosts. Thank you! Keep it exploding! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Exploding Bakery:
Just ok, really. Prime spot opposite the college and next to the station, but it was strangely quiet and had no atmosphere (middle of the day, lunch time). Service was miserable, like I was an inconvenience. Coffee was strong, but properly roasting hot and it needed to cool down for a long time. Tasty once we got there. Brownie was excellent. Mixed bag overall, and I preferred visiting 2-3 years ago. View all feedback.
Excellent pastry thingie with meat and fruit. And also one of the best Americanos I have had in a long time. Not necessary as we get used to boring morning black but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.
Abysmal got chocolate that was more lukewarm than hot and was somehow lumpy no value for money. Came in a glass too which was off putting. Tiny inside with hard chairs not very relaxing. Overhyped.

I 'm not hard to please, just a half decent coffee and a bit of respect and I 'd be 100% happy, but we got neither. The coffee was... weird.... not just highly roasted, it was actually 'sour '. I don 't know how you even do that to coffee! The cups were so tiny and over styled, i couldn 't even get one finger in the handle to pick up the cup and the aluminium tray it was delivered on was so dirty it looked like it had been dug up somewhere. Perhaps the fact that I am over 30 and don 't have an undercut affected their service, but I didn 't even feel vaguely welcome while spending my hard earned cash. Perhaps they 're more polite to their 'target audience ', people who like bad coffee and thrive on disrespect.
I had high expectations for this bakery/cafe, but I was somewhat disappointed. The staff were nice, but not overly friendly, possibly due to the busy atmosphere. I visited on my way from St. David's station to the town center and tried a coffee cake. The coffee (flat white) was excellent, but the cake (banana chocolate loaf) was very dry and hard to swallow. I was grateful to have water with me. I also ordered a frittata and a side of millet squash, which looked promising but were just average. The frittata was heavy on the potatoes and both dishes were quite dense and dry. I may have made poor choices, but I probably won't be in a rush to return. The restaurant is in a good location next to the central station.
