This is a fantastic pub with plenty of outdoor seating! There are terraces both in the front and back. I enjoyed excellent service from the staff while I relaxed for about an hour with a book and a beer. The beer was delicious, and the staff was wonderful! With everything open now, guests are seated both indoors and outdoors. The workers wear masks for safety, and they can remove them when they’re eating inside. It’s... View all feedback.
What Mieke Leewis doesn't like about St. James's Gate Irish Alehouse:
Staff were lovely as always, but the removal of all daily specials is a significant setback. If the management doesn't reconsider these changes, I fear they may lose more loyal customers like myself who enjoyed the unique offerings and affordability that set this bar apart from the Crooked Cue. Really cool atmosphere ? would give it a 5* if a food quality was a bit better. But was still good food and pleasant staff.
Service was great. The food is average. We were a party of 4. 2 guests had sandwiches – 1 wrap and 1 club. The club sandwich bread (Dempster 's, I 'm guessing) should be toasted, in my opinion. The side house salad looked really good. 1 of the other guests had the ROAYLE W/ CHEESE BURGER. He liked it. It looked nice and moist, nothing special per se. I had the VEGGIE NACHOS. They were big. The top layer was tasty – could use a few more veggies. And after the top layer, the mound of chips were dry, with nothing on them. All in all, average food.We had lots of drinks. Everyone seemed to enjoy the LIQUID APPLE PIE cocktail. It was a little bland I found, but decent. The ATMOSPHERE was VERY pleasant! And we were treated to some live music. Every one was in GREAT spirits.[Warning: Avoid asking for hot sauce – see pic.]Vegetarian options: There is a VEGGIE BURGER. There is also a VEGGIE NACHOS option.
Overall, not a bad Irish pub. Good live music. Unfortunately they will be closing in a year so check it out now before they close.
This is a comfortable and friendly pub! A great place where you can enjoy a good pint of beer, have some food and some good conversation. It has a variety of appetizers and main courses, including some delicious traditional pub meals. There are a variety of beer selections on tap, including 4 Irish ones. What's not to like about a chicken pot pie and a pint of Smithwick's ale! Or you can have a lighter and delicious salmon. The service is prompt and friendly. The prices are reasonable. You can sit at a table or at the bar.
Been here several times. The service is usually friendly, but can be a bit slow. The food is average at best and you are more likely to be disappointed in your meal than pleasantly surprised. So, go to St James for the beer and save your meal money for someplace better.
