Near the A92 and about halfway between Seville and Granada, chosen for its good reviews. A clean, large, modern place with an informal room and a more formal section, and busy even midweek, all Spanish speakers except us, including a table of what looked like...11 local young women. Tapas came within minutes and were tasty. Mains did not really take long either and were acceptable. Everything was a little too salty. Other reviews mention this so we hope cook will take notice and exercise more restraint as it’s easier to add salt than remove it. Espresso was excellent. If driving this route again, we would again stop for lunch here. In England, we’d feel lucky to find something like this near the motorway.
Homenaje have a great score on TripAdvisor, so we had high spirits but got very disappointed. I guess the reason is: it’s listed as the only “restaurant” in town and all other establishments are listed as a “only” tabernas or bars. Please do your...own research and you might see the difference . . . As hype and new – it’s still the most “posh” in Estepa. But as a place for great food the scores should be absolutely nothing sorry! And we did try! We tried the Tapas section one day and later in the week the adjoining restaurant. Neither should earn a single score The décor is great, modern and tempting – but the service is average* and the food sure a “get off lightly”! We had 3 different waiters at one visit All dishes – fish or meat – all too salty (my bet the chef is a heavy smoker like me and can’t adjust). They even remembered us and asked for salt at our second visit (I hope thy ask all customers – you as well). Every dish including veggies, be aware . . . they will be accompanied with a mix from frozen vegetable (or from a jar) cooked beyond recognition. Might even include some limp mushrooms if you get lucky. The bread is dust in a shell and the olives the cheap ones from the supermarket – although this is the region for the best quality. The wine was the saviour. But then again, we picked it ourselves and the price for the wine was the same as the whole meal. No complaints on the wine We don’t make the same mistake three times . . . . Please learn from this!
