Toscani has been an institution in Essen, the first shop opened in the late 1950s when their presentation of ice cream was quite a novelty. If you like ice craem, this is the place for you. You can sit in - and you'll have the choice of wonderful ice cream creations - or take a cone away. There is a vast choice of flavours, the only problem you'll have is to choose how many scoops you can eat, the portions are genero... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Toscani:
this is a centrally located restaurant with a very extensive menu. Eat here if you are hungry as it is more for functional eating than anything else. Service is slow and off hand but that is quite typical here so perhaps not a negative thing but more a style that you get used to. Food is ok quality and plentiful...even better if you have hungry teenagers to feed View all feedback.
During our day stay in Essen we went twice to Toscani for the Schlemmer-Frühstück (big breakfast) which was really great and filled us for a great part of the day. Service was good and fast and we loved the (heated) outside terrace. We will...be back. Recommended
The staff there is very rude behaved. The main chef could not understand English well and he made fun of me. I wanted to put an order and sit there and eat. But he refused to listen, just assumed something himself, rudely asked for money...and after the food was prepared, he said you cannot sit here. The waffel was not so good either or the icecream. These people should learn to be human with human beings and not discriminate just because someone does not speak their language.
We drank ice cream, ate a cake and then ate two big ice cups. there were no serviettes offered, no water served and as one of us wanted to go to the toilet room, he found out that you had to pay to enter the toilet room. it is not a hole in the wall selling ice, it is a big and chic caffe, where dozens of customers sit and eat and drink, both in the outside and in the inside. imagine they go to a chic restaurant and they are obliged to pay to enter the toilet room. After we paid, we went to the counter and asked who the responsible is. there were workers and they said that none of them are responsible for the manager, the most convenient way to avoid customers to complain. we asked how it is possible that they charge their customers to go to the toilet room, and our waitress said that we could enter the toilet room free of charge with billing. a customer receives the bill only at the end of his stay in the caffe, which means that he cannot go into the toilet room during his stay. How can the customer know about it? he can't. no more than a collection of lies. our waitress, who was very nice up to this moment, told us in a very unpleasant ton that we could go now. serve serviettes where ice is sold? it is clear that every customer needs a serviette at some point. not with water at a place where everything served is very sweet? it is not only basis they do not accept any complaints, they also told us that we should go when we complained.
We thought we were coffee! the soy cappuccino was really nice. the cakes looked great! abd there are many ice creams to choose from. in the inner they can smell the beautiful waffles! they also serve beakfast. outside there is a beautiful terrace with many tables....Very central location!
We visited their filials near the shopping center limbecker square, especially to enjoy their waffel. we had one with a strawberry and vanilleeis. it was delicious, fluffy inside and crispy outside. the service was stiff and not very communication.
