The setting of the old coal mine and cokes factory is spectacular. A trip from the restaurant/cafe to the restrooms is a journey full of industrial discoveries. The menu is straightforward with german classic as schnitzel and apfelstrudel. Staff is nice and the food is...tasty. Good venue to drink a coffee or weissbier before or after visiting this world heritage site or eat a vast german lunch View all feedback.
What Marco Wiedemann doesn't like about cafe & restaurant "die kokerei":
beautiful place, but terrible waitress that let her wait on the bar that chat with each other and ignore them. Waiting for minutes, we asked if we could order and just got a moment as answer. simply bring their own beer and chill in the wonderful opposite. View all feedback.
Because of the amazing place we really liked the restaurant. The surrounding is amazing but the restaurant really sucked. The food was okay, not that good but not bad. Unfortunately was the service so bad that we didn't got what we ordered both with the drinks as well with the dinner. When it was time for desert they told us this wasn't possible because the kitchen was closed, but at the same time they were still serving hamburgers to other people. So we ordered coffee, when they brought the coffee they didn't even clean up our dinner plates. It's a pity that a wonderful restaurant at a beautifull place is messed up by six waiters (who are all just chilling with eachother except checking on the guests). We would definitely not go again.

Intriguing setting and excellent food: generous portions and a delicious turkey dish, called Hempelmanns or something like that! Served with noodles and a very interesting salad - it was great.
Really good selection of authentic local food, excellent location! The selection of food is varied and comprehensive, to please even the fussiest eater
We needed lunch on a Sunday and the Casino restaurant at Zeche Zollverein only had an expensive buffet. So we tried the Kokerei restaurant. It was difficult to get English explanations so we stayed with items we could make good guesses about. My husband had blood sausages and potatoes. It looked pretty awful, but with the exception of one cold spot, he liked it ok. I had a vegetarian option with a large baked potato piled high with sour cream and a salad. We wanted tap water but ended up with some slightly fizzy bottled water. All was fine but nothing, but the location, stood out.
