Queues form at the b... read more Bakery/cafe that is at the heart of the community. It starts trading at around 10pm the night before as soon as they have products to sell. Queues form at the bakery counter and can stretch around the block. The cafe/bakery opens at around 8am locals buy their bread and pastries and it is very popular. During the in up to Christmas it was common for the service ticket number to be four times that of the number being served. Numbers sitting in the cafe vary greatly and tend to run in waves. Lunch onwards they also serve a soup of the day as well as lunch baguettes and rolls. Usually a traditional Portuguese soup vegetable or caldo verde or maybe chicken. Staff do speak some English. A working knowledge of Portuguese pastry would pay dividends.
