Description

A local Escanaba favorite known for bold salsa and generous margaritas, this Mexican spot pairs warm, personable service with uneven cuisine. Some dishes—shredded beef, chile sauce and scratch-style beans—show genuine care, while others suffer from reheated meats, small fajita portions, plain store-bought chips sold separately, and dated, slightly shabby decor. Ideal for casual nights out and margarita lovers seeking lively salsa, but temper expectations for consistent authenticity and kitchen execution.

This is our go-to spot for Mexican food in Escanaba. The margaritas are generous, and the salsa is perfectly balanced—medium or hot, depending on your preference. We were welcomed promptly at the entrance and had a very charming waitress. The owner is also incredibly friendly and enjoyable to chat with. The food is delicious, and the portions are quite generous. Interestingly, this building used to be a tata club in the 80s, and the mirrored ceiling is still intact! I genuinely believe you'll have a wonderful experience during your visit.

The food was decent, though I suppose it's hard to expect excellent Mexican cuisine in Escanaba, Michigan. The service, however, was excellent. I do think that sodas should come with free refills.

The fajitas arrived on a hot cast iron plate but weren’t sizzling; instead, the server poured something on them and set it on fire — it was quite bizarre. Also, the tamales were definitely not homemade and tasted awful. The entire kitchen staff could use a thorough overhaul. Additionally, I felt ripped off by the owner, paying $85 for a meal where the large guacamole was only 2-3 ounces at most. It felt very unprofessional, especially for a busy holiday like May 5th. It's time for the management to get their act together or seriously consider closing the restaurant. I won’t be returning.

The food is normally pretty good that 's the only decent thing about this place though. The staff is incredibly rude and will make you uncomfortable. They are only open 4 hours a day (4pm-8pm) if you come at 7 you will get dirty looks saying they will be closed soon. That 's if they even seat you sometimes they will just turn you away for it being too busy meanwhile their competitor down the road is packed to the brim and still maintaining excellent service.

I'm not one to write bad reviews, but if I could give this restaurant a zero star, I would. Very upset that we did not read the reviews before visiting this place. First off we ordered an appetizer (nachos) and it came out with our entrées. Nowhere near authentic Mexican food, they don't even give you free chips and salsa like most. Don't waste your time and go to Taco Bell instead.
