Have visited Mundheld for dinner twice now and it has been absolutely fantastic both times. The food is really delicious and nicely put together, you get all the dishes described in a good way and the waiters take care of their guests really well. Nothing is missing!
Delicious food, super wine and good service. Cozy surroundings and atmosphere. A good tell about all the food and wines will certainly come again.
The opening of the gourmet department at Britania works really well. We got 6 dishes menu and the fun wine menu. The dishes appear well prepared both for appearance and taste. Wine menu appears well paired to the dishes and good value for money. It is highly recommended and we come completely safe again
Well, where to start at the beginning, I guess. I’ve been staying for a while now in Esbjerg, but this restaurant had not been open on my previous visits maybe it's seasonal. This trip it was and as I enjoy my food, I don't usually leave reviews but have eaten in some very special places and I would add Mundheld to that list. It is expensive but then I find Denmark to be more expensive than the UK in general, never the less I booked a table and had the tasting menu with the wine flight. The restaurant was a little empty which is a shame as it’s a great experience. The canapes came out and as small bites were great, I particularly enjoyed the oyster which was very nice. I enjoyed all of the meal I was particularly taken by the final dessert, which was just an amazing end to the meal, although there were of course dishes that I enjoyed more than others but nothing that I disliked. The waiting staff were super efficient, friendly but with the right amount of distancing when required but kept a watchful and attentive eye. Being alone they were happy to chat and that was nice. During one of these chats and after saying that I was enjoying the meal and that the chef had created so far was told that the chef was not into day and it was his trainee who was preparing the dishes. I was taken back by this revelation, and a little concerned and even maybe a little bit cheated if I’m honest. Then sense kicked back in, Would I have known if I hadn’t been told – No Were the dishes great yes, they were Was I enjoying the experience – definitely yes Did it matter that it wasn’t the chef – No not really, the food was great and that’s what mattered. I continued to enjoy the dishes, the wines were good as well and described at each new glass and the pours were generous. I’m not really a dessert person, usually preferring a cheese course and I took the cheese course as an option and chose a few from a large selection, each was different but very good and went down with a glass of port. As I’ve mentioned I’m not really a dessert person but as they were part of the meal tucked in, the tart was nice, but the final dish was outstanding and may have changed my perception of desserts. I accept that it might not be to everyone’s taste, but I really was taken back and was a fitting tribute to the end of the meal. As for having a trainee prepare the dishes well I can’t wait to see how they progress. I’d be very happy for them to create food for me. So the bottom line would I go back. The answer is yes very much so. Although probably as a special occasion. The tasting menu is a little expensive to me but there are cheaper options available and I would imagine are just as good, but for an event the tasting menu is a superb choice. In fact I’m dinning there with a work colleague shortly and yes I’ll be having the tasting menu and probably the cheese. Enjoy.
