Waveland Cafe In Des Mo

A place I've only had a chance to visit on rare occasion. I grew up in Des Moines and visited when it was new way back when. The people are wonderful and the food equally as good!!

Came here this morning for breakfast. It was busy as expected. We were seated fairly quickly. We were seated at the same time as another table for 4. Our coffee cake came out while we had empty coffee cups. Our waitress didn 't even look. Dropped them on the table and never checked back in. The other table of 4 was leaving when our breakfast was served. We were ok with this as we were not in a hurry. The food was decent. We stayed over 30 min after we finished our meal. We left a $30 tip on a $47 bill since we stayed longer than anticipated. I was waiting for the bathroom and our waitress didn 't see me. She said loudly I can 't believe the actually left! I said I was sorry as she turned around mortified to see me. I don 't mind waiting for food or even having to ask for a refill on coffee. What 's unacceptable is her attitude. I wish I knew her name.

This is my in law’s cafe of choice. They always have to make the stop when they are in town. We got: • chicken melt w/ fries (5/5) • cinnamon french toast half order (5/5) • patty melt w/ fries; “best patty melt I have ever had. I would recommend it to anyone.” 5/5) The staff is so lovely and welcoming. It’s very cozy. All 5 of us got shirts because we are frequent flyers lol. 100000% will always come back.

This cafe was suggested by a couple locals, and I have to agree, it's fantastic. The food is excellent, portions on par for the price and the staff were great. In a minimal sized building as it was staff were working well together, and when seated you still felt like you had space. Standing space is like the parking minimal, though everything keeps moving so I wouldn't consider that a deterrent to trying this cafe. Will be going back, there's more menu to explore!

In this big city is a place that feels like a small town cafe… Waveland Cafe. It has great food, awesome staff and a feel of nostalgia.
