Love that... read more Cool place to relax and chill after sight seeing or hiking. Hot drinks were nice and bakery items delicious. Bar had a good selection of craft beers. Love that they use compostable coffee/tea cups. And also recycle bottles etc Oh and good wifi...handy in Ely as cell reception is spotty.

As soon as I walked in, the master roaster Everett showed me the coffee roaster to explain the different kinds of coffee he had just roasted. He took time to explain the roasting process. Clearly, he is meticulous in his process resulting in some of the best coffee I?ve tasted. His colleague McCartney provided wonderful service as well. The environment is calm and quiet during weekdays, but busier on the weekends as expected. The coffee quality, service and wonderful atmosphere make it a favorite for both Ely locals and tourists alike who appreciate incredible coffee!

The... read more I stopped in for a great cup of coffee after leaving the Boundary Waters. I like good, black coffee. Northern Grounds did not disappoint on the coffee side. The service was below average, though. 3 employees continued their personal conversation while Istood at the register with my wallet in hand less than 5 feet from them. They ignored me until they were done with theirmeaningless conversation, then they provided indifferent service. If the service matched the product, this place would be 5star.

Broth based soup that basically tasted like water with under cooked carrots, weird square chicken pieces and wild rice! Without a ton of salt it was inedible!! And at $7 for a smallish bowlit was easily the worst deal in town!
