Old Wellers now Fondata 1872 we arrived we were greeted at the door which was nice inside renovations looked great they had a open fire and it was cosy and inviting The food was nice but not a lot of it which is disappointing we had to order sides, wine was expensive even by the glass $14.00 which made our luncheon experience a very expensive one $300 (four people) View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Fondata 1872:
We are locals in Kangaroo Ground and are happy that this place opened up again after many years of enjoying Wellers. Nice outlook, friendly staff but very ordinary food for the money. Limited menu as well - my food was not hot at all. We hope for improvement. There was a lot of hype with the opening of this "upmarket" country restaurant but at this stage it does not live up to it! The old Wellers Resturant updated to become Fondata and the changes are great, excellent food in a comfortable and upmarket venue, The service was very good and the menu options extensive, At last a high quality resturant in a regional location, Will be sure to return
Fondata at Wellers 1872 is a fairly new restaurant where Wellers Hotel commenced operating in 1872. The old hotel was extended and completely renovated and looks brand new, while still retaining the best features of the old building, including the 2 way fire place and chimney made with handmade bricks - something my wife and I used to enjoy when having lunch at Wellers Hotel in the 'old days'.The Restaurant that has replaced the old hotel is hard to fault - the menu, the wine list, the friendly and efficient staff, the environment and the views of the countryside.
We had waited for our kids to go away so we could finally visit. They have done a wonderful job renovating the venue, still has a fabulous rustic feel without being too pretentious. The waitress we had was very friendly, maybe a touch too friendly but all good! After offering us pre dinner drinks - we said no thank you - so she then asked would we like wine - to which we said, no thanks we will see what foods we are having first. We then waited several minutes for menus, not sure why we had to wait. Then after we began reading, she offered to help with the menu. Nope it wasn't that complicated but thanks! (I guess some customers may not know what some of the items are). The chicken parfait was magnificent - but the pork terrine contained way too much fennel to taste the pork. (I don't like fennel as a general rule and the menu did not mention fennel at all, or we would not have ordered it) Our mains were absolutely magnificent, pork belly was PERFECT with delicious brussels sprouts & the veal cotoletta was divine (though chef husband wondered why it was deep fried). The only drawback with mains was the chips. We waited a couple of minutes after the mains arrived for our chips but none arrived. Turns out they were forgotten - she apologised & they came a few mins later - a little disappointing. Also, a query we had: on our table was a bowl of olive oil. What for? We weren't given bread so cannot imagine why it was there!! Anyway all in all we loved the food, yes I am being a bit picky in this review - but when you are paying decent money ($35 & $36 for mains) you expect things to be pretty darn good! Definitely would go back for more, so many delish sounding items. Oh and the short black was perfection after the meal. Thank you, keep up the great food, just fine tune the service!
