Subway - Elmhurst
Subway
Description
Once a reliable quick-stop sandwich shop, this location now feels uneven: service and food range from meticulous and hygienic—attentive staff deliver soft bread and neatly assembled sandwiches—to neglectful, understaffed shifts with mealy produce, sloppy assembly, and refusals to honor paper coupons. Cleanliness and customization are inconsistent, and salad prep may be unavailable. Value is questioned given prices. Excellent individual employees can make the visit, but expect variable experiences.

Often, the veggies—especially the tomatoes—are unappetizing or mealy, and sometimes they end up mixed in with other ingredients. Employees frequently overload toppings or don’t listen to requests. For someone like me who dislikes lettuce, it can be very frustrating to have to pick out the pieces. Additionally, the way the sandwiches are usually assembled places all the ingredients in the crease, which forces me to rearrange everything afterward. Nobody wants their ingredients piled up inside that awkward fold; it results in an uneven distribution, with one side overloaded and the other empty. The typical assembly drives me crazy, and the continual defensive responses I get when I ask about the bread's freshness are incredibly frustrating. Enter Rishi. He was quick and efficient yet gentle and attentive. He provided perfectly fresh, soft bread, cutting it evenly down the side. He constructed the sandwich exactly as it should be, with the ingredients laid flat and spaced nicely. Everything, from the vegetables to the meats, not only looked fresh but also tasted incredible—yes, even the tomatoes! The sandwich-making station and the checkout area were clean, and the trays for meats, cheeses, and vegetables were organized, with everything in its proper place and no stray veggies left behind. Overall, Rishi deserves a raise because he truly stands out in a sea of mediocrity.
The staff here is welcoming, the restaurant is clean, and it just underwent a decor update. Parking is always convenient, right out front.
There are clear signs that this Subway is going out of business. It's hard to believe that a Subway location would refuse to accept its own coupons. They might as well change their name at this point.
