Reviews - Eim Khao Mun Kai
Reviews summary
Nestled in Queens, this restaurant serves a unique take on Hainan chicken, delivering comfort food with a twist. The menu revolves around the steamed chicken over rice, accompanied by a selection of flavorful sauces and sides. While some diners appreciated the tender chicken and flavorful rice, others found the absence of crispy and roasted options disappointing. The affordability of the dishes, combined with generous portions and a delightful drink selection, including Thai iced tea, adds to its charm. Despite mixed reviews on authenticity and taste, it remains a popular spot for those craving a satisfying meal. Just remember, it’s cash only!.

I really enjoyed the steamed chicken rice here! It was incredibly comforting and delicious. The chicken was tender, and the rice was flavorful! The chili sauce was also spot on! My only wish is that the portion was a bit larger for the price. Overall, it was a very satisfying meal! View all feedback.
What Erna Eichmann dislikes about Eim Khao Mun Kai:
I've been meaning to try this place for awhile and finally had a chance and to my disappointment, they took the crispy chicken and roasted chicken off the menu. I really wanted to try the crispy and steamed chicken. Oh well, I proceeded to order the steamed chicken set for two. The portion was small and the spicy garlic sauce was too spicy for me and the sweet sauce was cloyingly sweet. I meant to ask them to swap th... View all feedback.

Solid spot for Thai steamed chicken (which is reminiscent of Hainanese Chicken, except way more sauces). The chicken is tender, the skin is delicious, and the gizzard/liver were decent too (usually not a fan). There were a large assortment of sauces/condiments to go with them, and the side rice/soup were also great. The drinks (tried lemon iced tea, Thai coffee, and coconut juice) were average, good for a hot summer day. All in all, solid spot!
I’ve come here a number of times now and there’s nothing more than I like than their steamed chicken. This place makes the homiest and most delicious steamed chicken but if you love crispy or grilled I definitely recommend trying it. Make sure you get garlic and use their sweet soy sauce. If you like spicy I definitely recommend using their hot sauce and add the chili for extra spicy :
This is probably one of the best places to eat when you’re in Queens! It’s definitely comfort food for me! The dish itself is very simple but it’s very tasty and you customize your own sauce to flavor your chicken. I love the chicken broth and it’s everything in one plate. Plus the it doesn’t break the bank! Also they have nice selection of refreshments. I love their Thai Iced Tea and also their Thai Green tea. This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat. It’s cash only so don’t forget to bring some with you if you’re checking it out.
Super legit authentic hainanese chicken with steamed rice. Very cozy and perfect for a cold day. Definitely get one of their set menus. Not much seating and the service is a bit gruff, but worth a trip nonetheless.
I absolutely loved the steam chicken rice here! It is just so comforting and enjoyable to eat. The chicken is soft and the rice is so tasty! The chili sauce is also definitely on-point! Only thing I wish was for the portion to be larger given the price! Overall, very satisfying!

This place literally has one thing on the menu: Hainanese Chicken Rice, and they do it amazingly. You could smell how fragrant the food is the moment you walk in. The chicken is tender, the liver cooked to perfection (so much so that we ordered an extra serve), and the ginger scallion sauce addictive. It's a very small place with only 3 tables but service is still attentive and efficient. Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
I'm conflicted about this place. On one hand, I love hainese chicken, and that is the only thing they serve, and they do it well, meaning it's authentic. On the other hand, the portions are small, and the price is high for this neighborhood, and the chicken are bland and flavorless until you add the various condiment and sauce that they provide. There's no secret recipe. It's just broiled or steamed chicken, cooked to perfection, meaning it's cooked just right, not too raw, and not too overcooked. The taste comes from the added sauce. It's really a very, very simple dish but over glorified by many other reviewers. The chicken soup is really tasty. If you want to try something authentic and feel like you are transported to Thailand, then this place is worth a try. Otherwise, some of you might be disappointed. I'll be back, but only very occasionally. Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
Very good steamed chicken, ginger rice, and broth. There are 3 sauces: ginger scallions, fresh garlic, and chili peppers. I like that this place also uses the chicken gizzard and liver. More places should use organ meats like this place. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

If I could choose just one restaurant to eat at for the rest of my life, it would definitely be this one. My only complaint is that I wish they had later hours.
This Thai restaurant offers a slice of Bangkok bliss! The flavors are true to the authenticity of Thailand. Every bite takes you on a delightful journey back to the streets of Bangkok. It's a culinary paradise for anyone looking for genuine and delicious Thai food. Highly recommended!
This restaurant is a great choice if you’re in the mood for this specialty dish. While the menu is limited, the chicken is cooked to perfection, and the rice is deliciously flavored. We also enjoy the hot chicken broth that is served on the side.
This place serves variations of one chicken dish. The chicken was moist, and the ginger rice was also tasty. The broth was light but flavorful. What makes this place stand out is the sauces. They have a spicy lemongrass paste ? , ginger paste, garlic paste, sweet soy sauce ? , and chilis which really elevate the chicken. Seating inside is limited.

The steamed chicken was excellent, though the portion could have been a bit larger.
The soup was absolutely delicious! The chicken was cooked to perfection, and the rice had a delightful aroma—truly exceptional!
I expected the steamed chicken to come with rice, but unfortunately, everything has to be ordered separately.

I've visited this restaurant several times, and I can confidently say that their steamed chicken is my favorite dish. It's the coziest and tastiest steamed chicken I've ever had. If you enjoy crispy or grilled chicken, I highly recommend giving those a try as well. Be sure to ask for garlic and pair it with their sweet soy sauce. If you like a bit of heat, definitely try their hot sauce and add some chili for an extra kick!
Absolutely delicious! I visited to try their chicken sets for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the steamed chicken. The roasted chicken was seasoned with a flavorful spice rub that was simply delightful. I’m definitely planning to return to sample the crispy chicken. Don't forget to ask for a container of the ginger sauce, as I'm not certain they provide it automatically with the steamed chicken.
I would give this restaurant a rating of 3.5 stars. Their menu exclusively offers one dish: steamed chicken over rice, with no grilled or fried options available. The coffee is just average compared to other Malaysian eateries in Flushing, and the soup has a noticeable MSG flavor. The rice in the main dish is good, but it seems to be missing some of that classic chicken flavor. I've tried every Malaysian restaurant in Flushing, and I found that this chicken doesn't quite have the typical taste, despite being tender. Since this is a Thai interpretation, the cooking style may differ, but they promote it as Hainan chicken, which is traditionally a Malaysian dish. Overall, I would rate it 3.5 stars. The food is decent, but if I'm craving authentic Hainan chicken over rice, I likely won't return here.
This is undoubtedly one of the best dining spots in Queens! For me, it's the epitome of comfort food. The dishes are simple yet incredibly tasty, and you have the option to customize your sauce to elevate the flavor of your chicken. I really enjoy the chicken broth; everything is served on one plate, making it a complete meal. Plus, the prices are very reasonable! They also offer a fantastic selection of drinks. I especially love their Thai iced tea and Thai green tea. This place is definitely one of my favorites. Just a heads up—it's cash only, so make sure to bring some when you visit!
This is an excellent spot for Hainan chicken in Elmhurst! We went to the smaller location, which is just a short stroll from the original restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy, with a few seats available, making it a charming place to eat. We ordered the combo to try all three types of chicken. I especially enjoyed the roasted and breaded chicken, although the steamed chicken was also quite tasty. The only reason I took off a star was due to some cleanliness issues. Nevertheless, it's a great option for takeout!

The chicken was a bit dry, but the combination of flavors and sauces was wonderful. Overall, I would give the food a rating of 4 out of 5.
The server seated us immediately there were three tables or you can sit by the walls. The hainanese chicken was good, you can request the server to not include the gizzards if you don't like them. The rice were very flavorful with ginger and you can add some spices to your liking. The hainanese chicken was good since it is their specialty, would come here to eat again.
My friend took me to this restaurant despite my not being a huge fan of Thai food. He convinced me that they serve authentic and unique dishes, so I decided to give it a try with my friends. He was right! The food was different, but it wasn't overly extravagant—just boiled chicken served with rice and some sides. I ordered the "Set 1" along with a Thai iced coffee, and it was delicious. I ended up ordering another set because I enjoyed it so much. The prices were quite reasonable, and the portions were generous too.
I meant to ask them to swap the liver for more gizzards but forgot and ended up throwing the liver away. The rice was pretty good and the soup was tasty but the daikon soup is just daikon soup. Would I go back? Probably not.
This restaurant is primarily a takeout spot, with only two or three tables available for dining in, which might require sharing with other customers. The menu here is somewhat limited compared to their other location, which is just a few stores away and likely offers more options. Please note that the restrooms are located at the other location. However, the food is fantastic! The rice is seasoned with ginger and chicken, and the soup features a clear broth packed with radish. While the chicken itself can be a little on the bland side, the seasonings really enhance the flavor! If you're a fan of liver and gizzard, you'll be pleased to know they include those as well—as we love them, we were happy with this addition. Plus, the chicken is boneless, making it even more convenient to enjoy!

This restaurant offers some of the finest Thai-style khao mun gai in the city. They provide a variety of options, including new fried and roasted dishes, as well as a combination of all three. I highly recommend trying the fried version—it's absolutely worth it! Be sure to sample their sauces, as each one is exceptional. The drinks, especially the Thai iced tea and coffee, are also excellent.
This is one of the top dining spots in Queens! It’s my favorite choice for comfort food. The dishes are straightforward yet incredibly tasty, with a unique and flavorful twist. I particularly love the chicken broth, which comes in a generous serving. Plus, the prices are very reasonable! They also offer a fantastic variety of drinks, including my favorites: Thai iced tea and Thai green tea. This place is an absolute must-visit for me. Just be sure to bring cash, as they don’t accept credit cards.
