What User doesn't like about Veritas Gateway To Food Wine:
We had a weird experience. Their food was top notch. Their service was horrible. We only saw the waiter who took our order only twice. Our water glasses were empty most of the night. The owner/manger helped me pick a wine, but the wrong wine was delivered to our table. A woman came by to pour the wine, we told her it was the wrong wine, she left and no one came back to give us the correct wine. I had to get up 15 min... View all feedback.
Service: Dine-in Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Recommended dishes: Carrot Cake, Brioche French Toast
**Small Plate #1:** Arancini with BBQ Pork, Mushrooms, Cotija Cheese, Green Chili Sauce, and a Farm Fresh Egg. While the presentation was nice, the dish was bland and sorely lacking in flavor. I would have happily seasoned it myself if there had been salt and pepper on the table. **Small Plate #2:** Crispy Cornbread topped with bacon jam, chives, and honey thyme butter. The bacon jam was more like crumbled bacon than actual jam, and only three of the six pieces had a small dollop of the honey thyme butter. It was rather underwhelming. **Small Plate #3:** Devils on Horseback—bacon-wrapped, cheese-stuffed, deep-fried prunes skewered with peanuts and drizzled with balsamic. This was the standout dish of the three, but really, you could bacon wrap anything, deep fry it, and drizzle balsamic on top, and it would probably taste good. **Main Course #1:** Strip Steak served with Cracked Purple Potatoes, Carrots, Butternut Squash, Turnips, Oregano, and Pecans. Unfortunately, the plate was overwhelmed with undercooked and underseasoned root vegetables. The steak, while cooked properly, was comprised of 40% fat and gristle—definitely not worth the price. **Main Course #2:** Nut-Crusted Mahi Mahi accompanied by Sweet Potato Bisque, Green Beans, Parsnips, Hen of the Woods Mushrooms, Basil, Tarragon, and Almonds...at least that’s what the menu claimed. As a forager of wild mushrooms, I can assure you there were no Hen of the Woods mushrooms in sight. While the Mahi Mahi itself was decent, it too suffered from a lack of seasoning. When asked if I would like dessert, I declined, unwilling to risk being disappointed again. **PS:** The ambiance at Veritas seems to falter once you step past the inviting front patio lights. Perhaps several glasses of wine would help revive the atmosphere. **BOTTOM LINE:** Veritas may be a nice spot to share a few glasses of wine and some deep-fried prunes with friends, but for genuine fine dining, you’d be better off heading east on Clayton Rd.
The combination of the food and atmosphere created a cozy, home-like experience. We will certainly return. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
We were warmly greeted as soon as we arrived and quickly seated. The service was attentive and provided excellent recommendations based on our preferences and inquiries. The restaurant's interior created a cozy and relaxing ambiance. The food quality was exceptional; I had the chicken and waffles, while my husband enjoyed the shrimp and grits. We're eager to return for their happy hour and to sample the fantastic cocktails from their new bartender. Though it’s a bit tucked away, it's definitely worth a visit for a meal. We'll be back!
The food by Chef Mathis is fantastic! Each entree presents intriguing flavors that always captivate us. The management has a deep knowledge of wines and is always available for a chat. The staff is excellent, and the new outdoor seating area is delightful when the weather is right.
