I've always enjoyed visiting this restaurant for their ramen and gyōza, but I had an unfortunate experience on my birthday when I found a large bug in my ramen.... read more I've always enjoyed visiting this restaurant for their ramen and gyōza, but I had an unfortunate experience on my birthday when I found a large bug in my ramen. This incident understandably made me wary of the food, but it was a one-time occurrence back in July, and I'm hopeful that the issue has been resolved since then. Aside from that, the food is fantastic, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves ramen and sushi. Service was great for dine-in.

I liked the Valentine's decor. It felt more cozy. I didn't order anything unique (salmon sashimi and Boston maki) but I would come back to try something different. I think the only thing I didn't like was the music. It sounded like royalty free jazz music and definitely didn't set the greatest vibe. Also cuz it was so loud at a point I couldn't hear our conversation. The server was nice. We were in and out within 45 minutes, which was great because we were catching a movie after. I would come back to try other items on the menu and something off their drink menu.

I was concerne... read more The chef personally came to my table when I ordered the chef's choice and inquired about my preferences, as I mentioned that I didn't want unagi. I was concerned that he might be offended since it was a chef's choice sashimi plate, but the experience turned out to be delightful and the food was delicious. The sauces he crafted for me added an incredible depth of flavor, even to fish I typically wouldn't eat, like mackerel. My only feedback would be that I wished the pieces of fish were a bit larger. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

We also shared the large sashimi platter, which was incredibly fresh and practically melted in our mouths. On top of that, we chose a two-roll lunch special, and those were fantastic too. The service was excellent, and the wonderful lady in charge really knows her stuff! We will definitely be coming back and highly recommend this restaurant. We told the hostess that we will just grab a drink at the bar and wait. Her immediate response was that the bar is “full” (which it wasn’t) and she proceeded to tell us to go outside and walk around and come back. We took her recommendation and found the Latin Kitchen two doors down and had a wonderful dinner and experience. FYI, we had been here before and the food is great. The hostess up front needs a new career.

Everyone loved the food. After we were done eating and the table mostly cleared, one of the staff put 4 Forks and Napkins on the table. Then, Mel brings out a plate with 2 cheese cakes on it and the words Feliz Cumpleaños on it!!! I guess when I made the reservation I mentioned it was my wife's birthday AND they knew she was Mexican. A simple and caring detail that is really unheard of these days in the restaurant industry. If you're looking for a nice place to eat with amazing food, and outstanding attention to detail, this is the place to go.

We ordered bento boxes, and I asked for a tofu substitution since this was my first experience ordering Japanese food and sushi after transitioning to a mostly vegan diet. Not only did our waitress and the chef accommodate my request, they went above and beyond, checking with me about every ingredient in the bento box that contained meat. I had forgotten how much meat was included and felt a bit embarrassed about needing those adjustments. However, they were more than happy to help, and the food was outstanding. To make things even better, I believe the owner came over to confirm my request for a mask, realizing they had plenty of extras available for us. This level of attention to detail was impressive. We were thrilled to discover such a fantastic place in downtown Elgin. We already have a few favorite spots, but this one exceeded our expectations and provided exactly what we were looking for. We'll definitely make this our new regular spot, and we highly recommend it to everyone we know!

My wife's employer purchased $100 in Kubo gift cards for her, and we tried to redeem them for a few lunches. Once, it worked. But after that, their system was constantly broken. Twice, the worker owner? manager? hard to tell; everyone at Kubo is friendly at the restaurant gave us a free meal instead of fixing the gift cards, which seemed okay, but when we came to use them the fourth time, the same worker accused us of trying to use counterfeit cards, and told us to bring a credit card receipt to prove they were actually purchased. My wife went through the processes needed to convince her employer to let her take the corporate credit card receipt with her to the restaurant ! , because we really like the food. We finally took it to the restaurant only to be told that this also was not good enough, because the gift cards could have been redeemed by someone else and there was no way to know ?? . The fact that they can't tell if the gift cards were redeemed indicates that their gift card system is just irredeemably bad. In the end, this worker owner? manager? thinks we are some kind of gift card scammers, but we just want delicious sushi lunch.

The sushi was impeccable and incredibly fresh, while the dishes from the kitchen paired wonderfully with the meal. They also offer an excellent selection of sake and wines to elevate your dining experience. The array of rolls available on the menu was impressive. She also let me taste her sushi roll, and now I'm completely hooked! The food is consistently excellent and tastes incredibly fresh; you can really feel the love and expertise that goes into making the sushi. My favorite roll has to be the TNT roll (as seen in the picture!). The staff is always so wonderful as well. Thank you so much!
