Joseph's Steak House - Elgin

This is the best burger I've ever tasted—it's just like something you’d get from a backyard grill, so delicious! I can't quite pinpoint the secret ingredient, but everything else on the menu is amazing too. I also love the Texas ranch-themed artwork!

My wife and I came in to town for a late Sunday lunch. I had the burger which had a very respectably sized burger patty and was was very good. My wife had the loaded baked potato which was also responsibly sized and very good. In talking with the waiter wewere surprised to learn that Joseph's has been there five years (we don't get out much). The decor music were pleasant, thebooth seating was comfortable, the food was good, and we'll look forward to coming back to try out the steaks on another day.

On the other hand, I must say the food and service are truly excellent! However, like others have pointed out, the hours of operation are quite inconsistent. I’m giving it 5 stars based on my experience, but I can relate to those who have shown up only to find the doors locked. I was really excited about this place, only to feel let down after driving all the way from Austin, only to find it closed again after dining here just a week prior! I rated it 5 stars because I don't want to hurt your business; the food and experience definitely deserve the highest praise. There aren’t many classy steakhouses around, and I really want to love this place!

I ordered the bacon-wrapped filets, cooked medium-rare to medium. I expressed my concern about the steak being overcooked, and unfortunately, it was. The filet pieces were quite small, making it difficult to cook the bacon perfectly without overdoing the steak. That said, the bacon was quite tasty and stood out as the highlight of the dish. As for the presentation, I’ll let you decide on that. For my main course, I had the chicken-fried chicken with gravy and a loaded potato. The chicken was fresh, and the frying technique was commendable as it wasn’t greasy, which is a plus. However, the chicken was a bit tough, which was disappointing. The most significant letdown was the lack of flavor, and as you know, flavor is crucial for me! The chicken and gravy were quite bland. I managed to add some flavor by using the bacon from the appetizer and seasoning it with salt and pepper, but otherwise, it was pretty tasteless. On a positive note, the loaded potato was quite good with all the toppings! Overall, I would consider returning because the quality of the food was decent, and the atmosphere and staff were pleasant. I might bring some garlic or sea salt to enhance my dish next time. I also thought the pricing was quite reasonable.

There was an insect in one of our drinks. We were very please with the staff and the food, until my wife saw the dead insect in my drink. She had the waiter call the manager, but the manager told him to tell us that he/she was too busy to come and it wouldtake him/she about 15mins. She told the waiter that that wasn't acceptable and explained the situation to him and he went backto talk to the manager, this time he took the drink with him to show him/her the insect inside and came back to apologize aboutthe insect, no manager with him, since he/she was too busy even for that. An insect in a clients drink and the manager nevershowed! That can get us SICK and the manager didn't think that it was important enough to come?! We wonder if the manager wouldalso be too busy to talk to someone from the health department. What it started as a nice date with my wife turn into adisgusting experience. 7/9/2021. 7:00PM
