Perhaps the finest restaurant I visited in the Mazatlan area! Wonderful appetizers brought to our table as soon as we sat: queso fresca (dairy near) and chorreaditas were excellent. Fresh lemonade is a must, and the margaritas were strong with tajin and not salt on the rim. Delicious! Carne asada was delicately tasteful. Bathrooms must be on the agenda... We had a great time in this restaurant in El Quelite. Great food and good service. The ambience is truly unique. Expect to march around a **** and a few hens and there are a few huge iguana that seem to live on the roof. A very authentic Mexican restaurant worth the stop.
Normally I find “off the beaten path” restaurants when we travel, but the travel vlogs I had seen about this place were so exciting I had to try it. Next time I’ll listen to my gut and skip the big tourist hotspot. First of all, I’ll say that the food was very delicious. Highly overpriced compared to what we pay in Mazatlan for meals, but tasty, and different than what we are used to. The decor was gorgeous and seeing the chickens and baby chicks walking around was fun, especially for the kids. We had been told there is a playground and animals outside the restaurant but it appeared to have all been torn down (possibly under construction? . Unfortunately, the service was beyond bad, to the point of it being rude and spoiling our experience. The hostess at the front greeted us coldly but gave us no instruction. We stood around for about 15 minutes after telling her our party size and finally went looking for the seating area ourselves. I guess the hostess had called in to the restaurant to tell them we were there but then hadn’t thought to tell us we could go in, or even informed us of how to get there (there are a few rooms to go through to find the restaurant . We are English speaking but are taking Spanish lessons and try hard to be respectful and communicate in Spanish when possible. We were sad that the wait staff was laughing at us very visibly and making fun of our Spanish as we tried to order from their menu. We were so thirsty and it was next to impossible to order additional drinks after they took our order because the servers never came to our table to check on us at all. There was a ton of staff and maybe 4 tables of customers total. It was not busy. They seemed to be purposely avoiding us. We had wanted to order more appetizers to try out some other things, but they literally never came to see and avoided us when we tried to make eye contact. We also wanted to order dessert but were not offered the option. They brought a few tiny bowls of desserts that looked to be a “sampler” for all of us to share (we think? . If we’d been given the chance we would have ordered more food, more drink, and more dessert. There were 6 of us so it was strange to have to take tiny bites out of tiny shared bowls and not be able to order for ourselves. The worst part that really spoiled the experience was after the meal. We left and about 10 minutes later one of the children in our party had to use the bathroom. We went back in, said hi to the hostess and reminded her that we had just left and needed to use the bathroom. She said ok. She then followed us into the bathroom and demanded money. She literally stood by the sink and waited while we peed, and said we had to give her money. I was already so disappointed by the way we had been treated that I just left and told my husband to pay her. I don’t think he did. We had just spend 1200 pesos in their establishment 10 minutes ago. It was just a disgusting and humiliating experience. The people of El Quelite were so lovely outside that restaurant. I truly don’t understand how they could be so rude and uncaring inside. I deeply regret giving this business my money. As we walked El Quelite I saw so many other empty restaurants that looked delicious and wish with all my heart we had gone to one of them instead of this tourist trap. So disappointed.
We visited one of the most popular restaurants in El Quelite, a small town outside of Mazatlan, not once but twice during our week long Mexican holiday. The wait the first time was about 5 minutes and we were a party of 9 and we visited on a weekday. Everyone was so nice to us and food was delicious. We were served antojitos upon arrival and dessert at the end. Its a cute restaurant as far as decor is concerned. It's a must stop when visiting Mazatlan, Mexico.
This restaurant is huge. It breaks off into different rooms eventually leading to a children’s outdoor play area and pens for animals beyond that. There are fowl running around in the restaurant adding to the experience. The food is very authentic, It was not to my taste, but that is on me. When the food was not eaten the waitress was very concerned that there was a problem. I explained that it wasn’t what I expected, and there was enough food at the table, not to worry. They offered to cook another meal the way I wanted and when I declined they took it off the bill. In this situation, they were more than accommodating.
