What Marion Perrin doesn't like about Teppan Taro:
Salad dressing was sub par to other restaurants, told server she graciously gave us a bottle and assured it was properly made and was still super weak I will be going to other locations next time View all feedback.
I went for lunch at this restaurant last week to celebrate a coworker's birthday. We decided to have the teppanyaki experience, where they cook in front of you. We have been to many Japanese teppanyaki restaurants in town, including this one, before. The food was consistent with what we have had before, but the service was lacking. It took a while for them to start cooking because it seemed like they had to call the chef when we asked to sit at the teppanyaki table. When the chef finished cooking, he asked if we wanted more rice, which two of us did. However, the rice never arrived and no one checked on us again. We tried to eat slowly to wait for the rice, but it ended up getting cold. I even had to walk over to the kitchen area and yell several times to get someone's attention. By the time they brought more rice, we had already finished our meal, making it pointless. The same issue occurred with the check - it never came, and there was no one around to ask. I had to get up again and ask for the check at the counter by the kitchen. I hope this is not a sign of the restaurant going downhill. It may have been a one-time occurrence, but I am not sure why we would go back anytime soon. It is a shame.
This was our first time at this restaurant but it won’t be our last! The food was amazing, the chef was so entertaining and cooked everything to our satisfaction! Can’t wait to go back and maybe take our daughter.

Rather than make the trek to the south side location we decided to try out the newer Sherwood Park location. The facility is smaller and obviously a previous Japanese restaurant location. The facility has six griddle table combinations (3 sets of table groupings) small compared to the larger downtown and south side locations. Otherwise the decor and ambience were comparable to the other locations. The menus were consistent with the other locations. Food service was pretty good. We watched the table across from ours while their show/cooking was taking place and could tell they were underwhelmed by their chef and his show. The chef we had was a different gentleman and really quite good. Of course if you attend often you’ve heard all the jokes, just clap and smile and let the others who haven’t experienced it numerous times enjoy the show don’t be the guy making off cuff remarks thinking you are funnier to the table. All the food was fantastic if not cooked to request, the chef did offer to cook a new steak but let’s be honest in the sesame sauce medium well tastes just as good as medium rare as long as you can get past the texture. Mistakes happen and it all adds to the experience. All in all I did enjoy the experience. There is something to be said for going to the original downtown or south side locations for the upgraded experience where nearly all the chefs are performers, especially if you are introducing people to their first JV experience but if you just want the enjoyable food in a more intimate location the Sherwood Park location will still give you the desired ginger/sesame/Japanese Village flavour of your choice experience.
This was our second time here, alot better than the first time, less busy, better service, food was great. A little pricey but worth it once in awhile, would recommend everyone to try it at least once.
