Was Anonym at Sofra Restaurant a mag?
I visited the restaurant the other night with four friends during downtown dining week. Three of us opted for the special three-course meal for $45, while the other two ordered the lamb rack and the meatballs. We shared our dishes, so we got to try a bit of everything. Everything was delicious, and the service was excellent as well. Despite being a Wednesday night, the place was quite busy. I highly recommend this re... View all feedback.
What Mozell Kozey dislikes about Sofra Restaurant:
My first time in Edmonton, and had seen all the glowing reviews and awards for this restaurant, so I thought I'd give it a try. I had the pastermi sarma, a spiced cured meat wrapped around some form of dip or purée. The meat had the authentic spicing, but it was way too salty. I couldn't get through it. I was told it wS imported from Turkey rather than made in house. As my main, I ordered the Adana Kebab. Again, way... View all feedback.

The moment you enter this place you know your in for a treat! It's inviting aromas from the kitchen greet you right at the door.
I love this place and I used to be a regular except that they do not take children under 12 (tip!).
Ah sofraI never knew you were thereI cannot believe sofra has been in its location for 11 years and I go to the hairdresser up the street.
The decor was simple, yet tasteful. The Nazar imbedded in the middle of the tables, was a nice subtle touch which reminded us of our travels to Turkey. It was also the only reminder of Turkey that we saw.The appetizers were very much a taste of Turkish cuisine, and highly recommend the pastrami stuffed with goat cheese and dates, as well as the yaprak sarma (grape leaves with rice and raisins)For entrees, the ground beef kabob was good, but certainly didn't reflect the flavours experienced in Turkey. The lamb kabob on the other hand was cooked to perfection and had the flavours that brought back fond memories of our travels through Turkey. The pleasant surprise was the duck kabob, which looked and tasted as exotic as the region in which it was inspired. The letdown of the entrees was the side salad that accompanied the dishes. It was basically greens from a bag, that you could buy at any grocery store. There were no vibrant colours, textures or flavours like we experienced in Turkey, and the greens actually diminished the plate presentation.Overall, for Edmonton it's a great introduction to the flavours of Turkey, but it would be nice to see and experience a stronger Turkish profile in the food. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
One of our favourite restaurants and on our list when visiting Edmonton.. The owner is the chef, butcher , recipe developer and extremely social with the guests. A family vibe comes across when eating at this restaurant! The servers are fantastic, friendly and very knowledgable about the menu items.

It's nestled right near the heart of downtown. I've passed by here many times. A friend and I decided to check the place out. We ended up ordering the pita...
Once again here with friends to enjoy the Sultans platter. Food is amazing and there is enough to take home. Loved all the dishes. We were able to sample the stuffed apricots and the feta dip with our dishes which was a nice change. With the Sultans feast you get to try a little of everything really. Highlights for me was the tuna (cooked perfectly) , the bread, the meatballs, the dips, and the stuffed grapeleaves. My hubby who loves meat loved the chicken and beef kabobs. But really everything was fresh and tasty. I also loved the salad with the tangy dressing. Generally I don't enjoy baklava because I find it too sweet, but this one is just perfect. Ambiance is lovely. Very intimate and great to converse with friends. Nice and warm. What wasn't warm was the service. I am not sure why, but I have been coming here since it opened, and after the first year or two I found service to kinda standoffish. Not sure why. Food outweighs the service though.
This is the first Turkish restaurant in edmonton I have tried it is also one of the most recommended restaurant in the city. Went for a family dinner on a weekday and I would recommend making reservation even on weekdays. It is quite a busy place. Order: Tavuk Sis Kebab: Delicious, tender and flavourful chicken skewers comes with bulghur pilaf, mixed greens in house dressing and grilled vegetables. Izgara Kofte: Scrumptious grilled beef meatballs with pilaf, mixed greens in house dressing and grilled vegetables as one of the most ordered dish. Sucuklu Pide: Cheesy pizza with sausage, egg and green onion was on the salty side and it was difficult to eat after few bites. Baklava: This mouth watering layered pastry was perfect dessert to end your night with. Sweetness in the baklava was just perfect. One plate has 4 baklava pieces. Rating: Taste 4/5 (I haven't tried any other Turkish place yet but loved this one except the pizza) Price 3/5 (I found the restaurant on Pricier side) Serving : 4/5 Service 4/5 Ambience 4.5/5

The food was top notch as was the service. Liked the downtown location. The main courses are large, I might just order appetizers next time.
We ate so many delicious appetizers that we didn’t have room for the main course. Fortunately, my my stuffed mushroom was even better the next day. We did somehow make room for a shared baklava at the end. Lol. Our server was very pleasant and did a good job describing the appetizers even though she was new to the job. They did a good job balancing our order with what seemed like a big party on the lower level. We’ll be back!
I have eaten at Sofra many times, each time was a delight. I am inspired to write after 20 of us thoroughly enjoyed dinner held in their private dining room. The service was excellent, only surpassed by the food. The owner was attentive and gracious. I highly recommend it.
We go for the lamb and prawns, it's the best lamb dish we are aware of in Edmonton . The lahmacun is a must try for an appetizer. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is perfect for a date night.
My new wife and I went to Sofra for a special dinner. It was our first time here, and with all of the positive reviews we weren’t surprised that our meal was spectacular. We started with the stuffed apricots and this took our tastebuds to a whole other world. We savoured each bite and by the time we finished our main courses had arrived. I had the Kale Mantar (portobello mushroom stuffed with vegetables, topped with goat cheese and eggplant, with a salad and bulghur pilaf) while my missed had Karides Kebab (grilled tiger prawns with a salad and bulghur pilaf). Both plates were packed full of flavour and were enjoyed from start to finish. We topped off the meal with fresh baklava which was a beautiful way to end such a delicious meal. Our server was very pleasant and friendly. We will definitely return.
