Reviews - Rooster Kitchen
Reviews summary
The Rooster on Whyte Ave delivers a welcoming, community-focused brunch scene with lively event nights and standout mimosas. Menu items like the Brisket Benny, polachintas and Western Standard are generally enjoyable, though food quality can be inconsistent (dry meats, small portions) and service sometimes slow during busy shifts. Management and staff are attentive and occasional complimentary treats smooth rough patches. Best for locals and social brunch gatherings—timing your visit outside peak hours improves the experience.

Amazing burger! One of the best I’ve had in Edmonton. I had the pepper pig burger and couldn’t get over how good it was! Fries were also excellent. Our sever was amazing. She was the only one on duty and was flying all over the place. Also shout outto 88 brew co and their Tropical IPA. Cheers!
If you’re looking for a place to support local restaurants and mingle with other locals I think Rooster would be the place! I had a good time here for brunch the other day. Got the Western Standard, which included multi grain toast, eggs, potatoes andback bacon. Service was good. But I wouldn’t come back just for the food, next time I would join one of their event nights! And their mimosas are good ????
Went for Sunday brunch. We ordered the Brisket Benny and polachintas. The Benny was just okay. Small portion of potatoes that were a bit overcooked. Polachintas we’re good. Service was okay. Prices were average.
We stopped in last week for a cool off from the sun. My first time visiting. Atmosphere was great. We sat inside but had a choice to sit out at the patio (pet friendly at that) Me and my friend each placed a breakfast order. I ordered a WesternOmelet with no cheese as I persohate Melted cheddar. We enjoyed or drinks as we waited when the server came out and said myorder will be a little longer as the staff accidentally put the cheese on the omelet. I personally think that coming out andapologizing for a mistake and informing me that my order was going to be a littler longer as they were remaking it wasabsolutely amazing. I have never had a place tell me why my meal was going to be later coming out. Class act for sure. Theomelet came out as I wanted it and it tasted amazing. I'm sure I will be back again.
Had lunch there while at Art Walk, I ordered the avocado toast but apparently it comes with eggs, but I don 't like eggs so I asked for more vegetables. More veggies app means a lot of onions and lettuce. The sandwich/toast was bland. It was just bread, tomato, onion, lettuce and avo. There weren 't any spices so it was pretty underwhelming. It was like 16 dollars or somethingtoo, which is a bit much. I had the tea of the day, an iced mango hibiscus, and it was just lovely. The service was a bit slowand the server seemed frazzled. I asked for my bill at the end and she took awhile and came back with it and the debit machine.I asked if they accept cash and she sighed and said 'I spent all that time looking for the machine and now you want to pay withcash? Great food, service and ambience. A wonderful addition to Edmonton's culinary scene.
The staff was amazing!! Food and drink were excellent! Go for paint nite, it was super fun!!!
What an amazing night, I had a great time. The show was absolutely beautiful. So well done. I can’t say enough. You ladies just put a smile on my face from ear to ear. Thank you. The food was great! I just can’t say enough. What a welcoming establishment.
I’m so excited about this new addition to Old Strathcona. Lucky me, I live above this new cafe/restaurant. The food is so amazing, yummy, fresh. It’s old style meets new style. A nod to my Eastern European heritage done right. It’s THE best place place for breakfast, brunch and lunch. You MUST visit!
Service is friendly and accommodating. They are very busy, so while we waited (about 30 35 min not bad for a Sunday on Whyte Ave) we had complimentary coffee and rogalach... after we were seated, the food came pretty quick, and was SO worth the wait! Honestly, The Rooster Benny is the best I’ve had in #yeg. We’ve been back 3 times already. Guess where we’re going for breakfast/brunch next weekend?...

The Food is usually quite good here, today was an exception, the food was dry and I think they were running low on hollandaise sauce as the eggs Benedict had none on it. The place wasn’t busy but the kitchen was very slow for making some basic dishes. Waitress was nice enough when we had complaints that we should have voiced earlier than we did. Only getting a 3 star for the food quality today, waitress was great.
This is an awesome place to have a latte and tap out a story on my laptop. Wonderful ambience. You have to be there to truly understand so go there right now. My partner recommends the carrot cake.
Obviously an understaffed day, arrived early for our reservation, restaurant was mostly empty. Took longer than required to be seated. Took 40 minutes to get food, but we had no cutlery or condiments. Not a great first experience.I will say that the manager did come by the table and did what she could to fix and address the issues. Will give them a second visit just in case it was an off morning.
I don’t review places often but I kinda have to after this experience. We tried this place for brunch recently and wowza, what a disappointment. We ordered grapefruit mimosas which were insanely sweet and came with a garnish of apple !? and hair. The bagel and cream cheese I ordered featured a dry, barely toasted bagel, and on the side there were very large chunks of red onion, tomato, and exactly 3 capers. Three. Is there a caper shortage? When I mentioned the lack of capers our server stated it’s because they’re switching the menu items soon so there aren’t a lot of ingredients left for their current menu items ?!! My date’s food was no better BUT, we did have a good chuckle over the whole thing.
