We tried this restaurant and was amazed by the delicious flavours! Since then, we have gone back and never been disappointed. Please note however, this is not your run of the mill, Canadianized Chinese food this food is filled with unique flavours, but is delicious. We recommend the Mapo Tofu (spicy), Green Beans (not too spicy), Cold Pork in Garlic/Chili Sauce (medium spicy), Beef in Chili Sauce (Spicy) and the Eggp... View all feedback.
What Ervin Cremin doesn't like about Old Szechuan:
Visitor in town, was looking for a good Chinese restaurant, this one pop out during my search, so we decided to give it a try,Pros: the restaurant is recently renovated and it looks good, open till late night. HOWEVER! it was definitely NOT Szechuan food, over priced for sure, a vegetable dish will cost you about $14.95-16.95 dollars, food was coming slow, taste was just like random Chinese restaurant you walked in.... Been there many times, and food is always great. I've been all over China, and Hong Kong, and can say the food here is as good as any.
So good and you shouldn't miss. Friendly staff and quick service. Extremely tasty food and genuine Sze Chuan taste.
Clean place, good food. Very honest restaurant. The food was delicious, if a little spicy. Make sure you really like Szechuan food before coming here.

We recommend the Mapo Tofu (spicy), Green Beans (not too spicy), Cold Pork in Garlic/Chili Sauce (medium spicy), Beef in Chili Sauce (Spicy) and the Eggplant. My fave is the mapo tofu (extra spicy). The food is great, and yes, the wait times can be a bit long depending on volume, but the food is made fresh and worth the wait.
We went to the new Old Strathcona location not the one listed on Tripadvisor on 103 St. My wife and I and two friends ate at the restaurant on Saturday evening. We ordered hot and sour soup which was ok but a lot of tofu and much better H&S in Edmonton. We then ordered green onion cakes as an appetizer. these were puffy and fine but only hot sauce was available, no vinegar soy sauce. For our main course we ordered Cashew chicken, seafood with mixed vegetables and ginger beef. The cashew chicken had so few cashews you could count them on one hand. The vegetables consisted of celery with a couple of thin slices of carrot. The seafood dish had a decent variety of seafood but the mixed vegetables consisted again of only celery. The ginger beef was ok but much better available at many Chinese restaurants in the area. It is August and there is a lot of local produce available so why only celery? Service was poor. We asked for water which never came. No one stopped by to see if we needed anything during our meal or if the tea needed refilling. There was only one other table occupied so the staff was not overworked. Overall a very disappointing dinner.
