What a great idea! Very generous portions and rich desserts. Lovely to see old lady there having a drink, i don’t think she would have been out on a high street expensive busy cafe. Young people working there, a bit disoriented, but that is ok likely their first job; Got lost looking for the toilets! place is a maize! View all feedback.
Visited the Old School Cafe again during the Fringe. The place was buzzing, I ordered a flat white coffee, a haggis, Mozzarella and mango chutney panini and a homemade fruit scone. My partner had a spiced latte, the lentil soup, and a slice of carrot cake. The service was excellent, the pleasant young man took our order efficiently and brought our drinks very quickly. The spiced latte was delicious the cafe makes their own spice mix. My coffee was also tasty the Cafe boasts it's own unique blend of beans. My panini was lovely, as was the soup. The highlight was definitely the baking, the scone was light, fresh, warm and delicious and came with jam and butter. The carrot cake was also first class. The service, quality of food and the very reasonable prices make The Old School Cafe the best cafe in Edinburgh.
This café is not the easiest to find. The café allows young people to gain work experience. The food is simple but tasty and a lovely quiet location. An amazing find in the busy time of the Edinburgh Fringe.

We just happened upon this little cafe. Very reasonable prices and delicious home cooked lunch dishes from toasties, soup, curries etc.
Visited during the fringe , a nice menu but a little limited on drinks. Fantastic tea menu. Nice atmosphere
