While visitors praised the friendly staff and cozy atmosphere, disappointment arose over the limited vegetarian options, inconsistent food quality, and cleanliness issues. Despite some standouts like a delicious apple pie and quality scones, other dishes received mixed reviews. Changes in the layout and access were also noted by long-time patrons, with reservations and COVID-related measures impacting the overall dining experience. While some guests felt let down by the decline in service standards and hygiene practices, others plan to return and enjoy the homemade treats and reasonable prices.
Cafe/Tea Room. Despite having visited a few times before, I was surprised to have a negative experience this time. The restaurant was quite busy, and instead of a server taking our order, we had to go up to the counter. My main complaint was with the person cleaning the tables. They piled everything onto another table that also needed clearing, which seemed like a strange choice. The cleaning process seemed rushed, and they ended up putting dirty plates and cups back onto a table they had just wiped down. They then walked away, leaving the table empty but not properly cleaned. It seems like they could use some help with basic hygiene practices. Our tea was lukewarm, and the cake was just okay. Overall, the standard of service and cleanliness seemed to have declined compared to our past visits.
What a delightful discovery! The coffee and tea were delicious, and the fruit scones were very tasty. The staff were friendly and pleasant. However, it would be helpful to have better signage in place (as we couldn't see any) to indicate which section of the café is dog-friendly. We were all settled in when we were informed that we needed to move because we were not in the correct section.
We popped into this garden centre as a break for a drink on route to out holiday. Although it 's slightly off 'the beaten track ' it 's definitely worth finding. The cafe was in the old school room (complete with a desk I remember from my Infants School) and was relatively full, which is always a good indicator. We had coffee and an excellent Cheese Scone. We then had a look around the rest of the Garden Centre which is located around a courtyard area where we found a birthday card- completely inplanned. Definitely recommended
The staff were friendly and helpful, cafe is pleasant and clean. Unfortunately the food on offer is extremely poor for vegetarians. We had gone for lunch but we just got a scone each. The scones and coffee were lovely. The cakes looked good, but it was uncomfortably hot in the cafe so we left.
We stopped here for lunch on our way South. The location is outside the village on the former railway station. The tea room is comfortable with a wide selection of hot food and bakery items. Staff are very friendly and efficient and the place was busy. Highly recommended.
