To avoid drinking and driving on our anniversary, we opted for a Chinese takeaway from The Lantern. We were staying in a friend's home in Hornsea, so it was convenient to do so. Paired with a bottle of Alcas, we savored a meal featuring a shared starter, prawn dish, crispy beef, chicken satay, and a special fried rice. Everything was delicious and satisfying, especially the special fried rice. Mmmmmmm! View all feedback.
What Shelagh J doesn't like about Chinese Lantern:
We'd been to the Chinese Lantern on a previous trip to Hornsea so knew the décor and service were nothing special but that the food was good. Two years on, nothing much has changed. The décor is a little more tired and the service is slow and vague, but the food is still delicious. A shame they can't teach their staff the difference between a soup spoon and a teaspoon, or what a Chinese soup spoon actually looks like... View all feedback.
First time in this restaurant although I have lived in Hornsea many years. The staff were amazing and looked after our every need. Food was amazing. We had a really relaxing night. Would definitely recommend
Do not eat from here ! It's frozen meats with chip shop style curry sauce ? probably the worst chinese I've ever had ????
During a break in the area we visited for a meal and were the only customers dining in and does appear to be more of a takeaway restaurant rather than dine in. We opted for a set meal at £12-80 each and have to say we thoroughly enjoyed the food. Was a little cold inside the restaurant with people opening and closing the door but perhaps we sat in the wrong place. Lovely English girl taking order and serving who did have some character but place is generally tired and in need of a good clean up and redecoration. Having said that we really did enjoy our food which was cooked for us and was hot and tasty.

Wine is only sold by the glass, and our 2 glasses of rose arrived looking decidedly like red (it was quickly replaced). The catalogue of oddities added spice to the evening and we certainly enjoyed ourselves (and the food).
We chose to dine at this restaurant due to its convenient location near our accommodation. The service we received was welcoming, friendly, courteous, professional, and very accommodating. The starters (soup and ribs) were delicious, and the main dishes (scallops, duck, and seafood) were incredible! We ended the meal with pineapple fritters for dessert, which were spot on. This was the best Chinese food we have had in a long time, and we have tried many around the country. We want to thank the staff at Chinese Lantern for making our evening wonderful.
