While the food garners praise for its quality and generous portions, service inconsistencies detract from the experience. Guests have reported issues with the manager's treatment of staff and patrons alike, creating an uncomfortable dining environment. Despite a charming ambiance and friendly waiting staff, frequent unavailability of menu items and lackluster breakfast offerings have left some patrons disappointed. Nonetheless, many commend the welcoming nature of certain staff members, and the pub remains a spot worth considering for its charm and culinary offerings.
We spent a night at this restaurant while visiting family. The room was cozy, perfectly clean, and had a lovely en-suite bathroom with a roll-top bath. The bed was also very comfortable. The atmosphere in the pub was great, with a friendly landlady and staff, as well as an excellent selection of gin and cocktails. There was even a young guitarist playing, which added to the lovely evening. We opted for the full English breakfast, which was of high quality. We would definitely recommend this place and would stay again. Thank you.
I visited this restaurant for the first time and it definitely won't be my last. The Sunday roast dinner was fantastic, with great quality and generous portions. The staff were all very friendly, from the moment I walked in to when I left.
I wanted to say a massive thank you for Sunday ! Not only was the food as always excellent but the welcome and service you gave us was amazing !! Never have I ever doubted your hospitality and my faith has been rewarded. Please pass on thanks to all the guys an girls who follow your lead – the ship has to have a good captain to run smoothly !! as they were brilliant. i will be back as often as traveling allows, and in the meantime my Mom will be back frequently.
We opted to stay here as it was close to a celebration we were attending in a nearby village and we were so pleased we did. The pub is full of charm but with the added bonus of a lovely hostess! Amy, gave us a warm welcome and tour of the pub which was super quick as it only has 3 rooms. When we checked in we were impressed with how organised she was as she took our orders for breakfast and what time we would like it ready. We had also booked an early evening meal to soak up the impending alcohol! We both opted for the burger, which was beautifully cooked, the onion rings were wonderfully crisp and the skin on fries very tasty. Reasonably priced and quick service. We would both recommend for either dining and/or an overnight stay we will be back. Thank you Amy for your wonderful hospitality
Came in for a meal between 5 and 6 and was extremely taken back by the landlady’s treatment of her staff members and arrival of customers. Will not be returning to an establishment who can treat their staff members and paying customers with such disgusting mannerisms. After a lovely day at Burghley we wanted a peaceful meal, however could not relax due to hearing her bellowing from the bar with all the volume but little movement! Overall the visit felt uncomfortable and distasteful, maybe she needs a career change or to employ a full time manager to take the ropes.
