What Carlos a doesn't like about The Lab Of Bbq:
Went in to use a local flavor coupon, s cpl of months ago. The brother didn't hav everything up n runnin, at that time. He told me to go come back in a wk or 2, but that he would honor the coupon. I gave him a month n went back. Couldn't find him for a cplof wks, bc he was never there. Finally found d him today n he wouldn't honor the coupon, but he did give me a 2 for 1. Tried this place on a whim because where I intended to go was closed. The people were very kind and seemed to be just trying to make a living. I think they may just be new at having a restaurant. I was the only customer in sight and waited for 20+minutes. They had just opened for lunch but didn't have things like mashed potatoes or ribs. There's not music playing and verylittle on the wall, so it almost feels like you're not supposed to be there. The brisket was burned, the chicken was good, thepotato salad was good, the mac and cheese was okay, the sweet potatoes lacked flavor and the collard greens weren't something Iwas ultimately willing to try. The staff was very polite and tried to make up for the wait with extra cornbread (which wasresponsible for at least five minutes of the wait time) and some cobbler I didn't order. This experience was a mixed bag of goodand not-so-good, but I hope they figure some things out and start doing well so guys like me aren't their only customers forlunch on a Friday.
I ordered the pulled pork and brisket meals, which came with baked beans, mac and cheese, vegetables, and cornbread. Both meats were tasty, but the two sides were a bit bland. The cornbread was dry, although it did have a nice flavor.
I absolutely love this restaurant! Chef Mike is a true genius in the culinary world. He is not only talented but also a hardworking and attentive cook. I am incredibly grateful for the fantastic job they did at my family reunion. Thank you, Mike and April!
