Contribute FeedbackThe Red Lion in Skegness, a Cask Marque pub, presents a mixed experience for patrons. While the budget-friendly environment attracts locals and weekend crowds, concerns arise regarding cleanliness and beer quality, with reports of oxidized pints. The food, though generally acceptable, has been inconsistent, leading to hesitations about dining here again. Accessibility issues also surfaced, highlighting discrimination against those with mobility challenges. Despite decent service and a pleasant outdoor setting, the pub may not be the best choice for a memorable dining experience, best suited for quick drinks rather than a culinary outing in this seaside town.
The Red Lion is one of two (Count 'em: 2! Cask Marque pubs in all of Skegness, which should give you a hint that it is not a real ale town. There is a not a single really good pub in this place, and on paper The Red Lion, which you 'll find diagonally across from the train station, should be your best option. And it normally is: It 's a Spoon, and the Spoons are normally considered a solid option for real ale lovers. Not in this case. The pint I had had gone bad, oxidized. That really shouldn 't happen: Obviously, the cask had been kept for too long (normally, a cask has to be finished within 3 days, or else you 'll run a risk that the beer goes bad . Bummer!
I completely agree with other reviewers, this may be the worst Wetherspoons I have ever been to. The food is hit or miss, as the last meal I had there was a warm salad with wilted lettuce and overcooked tomatoes, likely left under heat lamps. What really bothered me was being constantly overlooked at the bar in favor of serving locals first. It became a joke at one point when a staff member saw me waiting but then decided to wait for a local customer to come to the bar and serve them before me. I recommend having your group all stand at the bar to ensure someone gets served.
Warning: Discrimination against individuals with disabilities! The restaurant denied entry to my mother because she uses a mobility scooter. The doorman was rude, cruel, discriminatory, and even laughed as he turned her away. I will be lodging a complaint against this establishment and the doorman(s) with the government and the Disability Discrimination Department. [hidden link].
A good pub with a varied choice of cask ales, service was quick and the beers were well looked after. One of the better Wetherspoons.
The food in this pub is excellent value for money, the chicken tikka masala is one of the best I've ever tasted. I also found the drinks to be good value.
