While many patrons rave about the delicious, well-presented food, highlighting favorites like steak and ale pie, others note inconsistencies in service quality. Cheerful, attentive staff often elevate the dining experience, yet some guests have encountered lackluster service. The venue remains popular, especially for Sunday lunches and chilly evenings, where the comforting ambiance invites return visits. Despite occasional challenges, the combination of quality food and warm hospitality makes The Five Horseshoes a worthwhile stop for locals and travelers alike.
Visited this as a stop off on our way to a long weekend in Bath. The staff were attentive and professional. The food was outstanding. Cooked to perfection and to order. The food was flavoursome and very well presented. Good quality. Venue was a beautiful typical county village pub, oak beams, and authentic decor. Will definitely pop in again if I was in the area or passing near by. Would recommend to anyone for a wonderful experience
I had a wonderful lunch as usual, the food was delicious and Jackie, my waitress, was fantastic. The service was excellent, with always cheerful staff making it a nice place to have a relaxing meal.
My family and I went to this restaurant for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately, the restaurant's decor is a bit outdated and the carpet was stained. There was one waitress, with red hair, who was very indifferent and unfriendly. She did not engage with us at all and seemed to just throw our food at us. I don't know if she was having a bad day, but if that's how she usually behaves, she should not be working in customer service. It's a shame because the food was actually very good.
On a cold winters night it was a real pleasure to call into The Five Horseshoes for a wonderful dinner. I have been here a couple of times and am never disappointed as the staff are always very cheerful and welcoming. We were seated at our table and served by Ellie, who was very attentive and pleasant, making sure we had drinks whenever we were getting low and ensuring our order was correct. I had Steak and ale pie and my wife had the Cod. Both were cooked to perfection and compliments to the chef for this. I would recommend calling into this restaurant if you are ever in the Hertford area.
This restaurant really should be visited if you are in the area. Beautiful surroundings and excellent staff and food. A very relaxing atmosphere and friendly place to go. Greeted by Dave and served by Elly was such a pleasure. I will visit again and again if I'm in the area
