Ordered large chips, chicken burger and a few other items in the shop tonight. Staff are pleasant enough and the wait time was forgivable considering it was a busy Friday evening. However you would think that a busy chip shop is only so popular because of the quality of the food. Or is it lack of real competition as to why customers return regularly for this slop? Disappointed is an understatement, the chips are average, the curry sauce was good but the pots are only ever half full. The chicken burger was disastrous and I’m not sure they’re qualified to call it a burger at all, as it was 3 chicken strips in a bap. The “burger” was honestly the most bland bit of food I’ve had all year, no flavour to it at all. I know I shouldn’t go to a fish and chip shop for a chicken burger but I thought I would try something new. It won’t happen again. The cod was again average, the batter wasn’t particularly flavoursome or crispy. The battered sausages however are a joke, the batter just crumbles off, leaving you with a plain sausage and a bag full of batter crumbs. I was hesitant about ordering tonight due to past unpleasant orders but tonight has just confirmed I won’t be attending again, which is a real shame as there aren’t a whole host of options in the area.

That is the only negative and is to be expected given being a takeaway/delivery order. Otherwise, this is the best fish and chip shop I've ever been too, 100%. My GF who is from hove and has been to too many fish and chip shops to count has said that this is far and above all expectations, especially being such a hidden gem. I've tried the skate, place and haddock, and they have always been fresh and flaky and the batter has always been proper crispy and not greasy at all, which surprises me because I got it through delivery! Chips are not greasy at all and always been very consistent and with that fish and chips shop aura! For me and my GF the stand out by far is the curry sauce; if you order from harbour fish bar (which you should) you HAVE to get the curry sauce. I don't know how they make it but it goes perfectly with the fish and chips: it's perfectly seasoned and only slightly sweet (I don't prefer the overly sweet kind you find a lot) and as a sauce-fiend I have to have at least 2 every order (but 1 curry sauce is still generous). The mushy peas are really well textured and not just gloopy slop in other fish and chips shops, only downside is they would benefit with a little salt, but that is my taste! If you ever find yourself in the strange, small town of east-grinstead and need some proper traditional British food, go here! Service: Delivery Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

If you order on a Saturday for delivery and they give you a time of one hour for deliver don’t ever believe it. Over 45 minutes late you chase them and they say really busy will be another 15 minutes, which it won’t be and apologies seem hollow. Two hours for fast food, just go in person as they clearly prioritise walk-ins over their deliveries.
