Gourmet Mountain Muffins Cakes

When I was growing up we had the BEST pie shop in our little country town. Their plain meat pie (the only choice other than a shepherd’s version with mash on top) consisted of a crispy, flaky pastry lid, a nice not too thick and gluggy, not too thin and brittle pastry shell base, and full to the brim incredibly flavoursome mincemeat centre no fat or gristle, just damn “hell that’s good” deliciousness. All my life I sort to replicate my youthful memory of these pies. Some came damn close, some missed dismally. But the memory of what a meat pie really should be kept me searching. A couple of weeks ago I was at work and lunchtime hunger hit. Figured I’d take a quick stroll around to Gourmet Mountain Muffins Cakes. A little later than the rush, was sad to find they had sold out of much. Choices limited I bought the last plain beef mince pie. Headed back to work where I sat at our table in the kitchen and pulled out the pie. I peeled off a piece of the crisp top and bit. Smiled to myself. Then I tackled a bigger bite – taking in base, meat, gravy. Instantly I was transported back 40 years sitting on a bench outside Molloy’s Bakery devouring one of their meat pies. Yes, I had found my holy grail. I was in bliss. I have been back and will be again and again. So very glad you are on our little mountain, the title of BEST pie now has to be shared. Thank you GMMC – I cannot recommend your pies enough!

We tried the pies from Gourmet Muffins and Cakes today. My son is a pie lover, and he gives Five Stars for the double smoked bacon and cheese pie, and I had the plain, which also was 5 star. We also loved the chicken and dill sausage roll. Beautiful fresh, REAL chicken in delightfully light flaky pastry.

This place is so lovely. The owners go above and beyond for their customers, even buying in my favourite tea for my once a week visit

I love the delicious muffins and cakes at Gourmet Mountain Muffins Cakes. Wonderful service by the beautiful family that owns the bakery and cafe. The Chocolate and Banana muffin I had last week was a mouth-watering delight. Yum!
