The Fire Barn - Durand
The Fire Barn
Description
Tucked into a charming, old building, this casual spot serves fresh, inventive diner-style fare — standout items include pulled pork, beer-cheese fondue, burgers and generous portions — at moderate prices. Experiences vary wildly: some diners praise attentive service and perfect dishes, while others report slow or indifferent staff, order errors and occasional overcooked meats. Complaints also cite management and billing lapses and spotty restroom upkeep. Worth trying for interesting, made-to-order comfort food, but expect inconsistent execution and service.

I never leave reviews but after this experience, I felt it was necessary. My friends and I came for lunch around 3 and when we got there the place only had two other tables occupied. It took about 20 mins to take our drink order and it was downhill from there. The food was not good at all. The server was less than pleasant. When we tried to bring this up to the staff, they said we were crazy . It also seemed to be a huge inconvenience for them when they were told the restroom was out of toilet paper. They also seem unsure on how to count because they charged us for gratuity of 12 but there was only 7 in our party. Riddle me that. The big issue is they did not even care to acknowledge that anything was wrong or try to help us after knowing how displeased we were with the whole experience. If I could rate in the negatives I would. Will not be back and will not recommend this place to anyone.
Food is overall pretty good. However the past few times the service has been terrible. Just walked out because 27 minutes went by from our initial drink order. They brought half the drinks over and never came over to take our food order or give us the other beverages. There were open tables and several servers, including one that said our server would be back over to us. Approached the server and told him how long it had been. He just shrugged but no apology. Asked to close our tab and he advised it covered(for some soda beverages).
Had the absolute worst restaurant experience of my life with a group of friends. Went in at 3 for a late lunch. We didn't leave until 5:30 we came in 45 minute before one table that got their food before ours. We where served cold, over cooked burgers, mine was dripping in oil and grease. We had a table of 7 but got charged gratuity as a table of 12. And it took 30 minutes for our checks to be given to us after our food. Will not be coming back and will not recommend this place to anyone
We also ordered two Ribeye steak sandwiches, one medium and one medium rare; unfortunately, one came out medium while the other was overcooked and very thin. I asked for my fries to be well-done and without salt, and they turned out great. However, my husband specifically requested salt for his fries, and they arrived without any. I was really hoping for a better experience, but it fell short, and the lack of other customers on a Saturday night—only four people in the restaurant—should have been a warning sign.
