Called in for evening meal. Lovely food and welcoming, friendly service. Home made pasta with oats is a nice touch. Very enjoyable!. We had prawn cocktail and homemade Tarmosalata to start with, followed by spaghetti bolognese and mushrooms and pasta. No room for a sweet. Bought the pasta to try at home. View all feedback.
What michaelay2016 doesn't like about The Smithy:
Lovely place food was lovely I don’t think it’s got much of a choice of food on the menu. you can take your dog along you don’t mind sitting outside. staff were lovely. i’ve got to say I think it was a bit pricey though View all feedback.
While passing through the village on our way to Gatehouse of Fleet, we stopped for lunch at a charming café located in a traditional cottage-style building. Despite the rain, we enjoyed the friendly staff and pleasant ambiance inside. We opted for lighter snacks rather than the specials, with my wife choosing a Tuna Mayo Cheese Jacket Potato and me opting for a Broccoli Stilton soup and Chicken with lemon mayo sandwiches combo. The service was excellent, and the fresh and tasty food made for a satisfying meal. We ended our lunch with some coffee, finding the total bill of just over £22 to be good value. Although the cakes were tempting, we saved room for later and were impressed with the well-maintained toilets and gift options available for purchase. Currently, the café is only open on Fridays and Saturdays during the winter months.
My husband and I had dinner at The Smithy with some friends on Saturday evening. The food was fantastic, as well as the hospitality and service. The menu was creative and the ambiance was wonderful. We would definitely dine there again if we are in the area and would highly recommend it.
This charming little restaurant has friendly staff and serves the most delicious gooseberry and rhubarb crumble. The plates were hot, as shown in the photos below. We will definitely be returning.

We visited on 27th May to try out the evening menu and were given a great first impression when we called up in the morning to book. Very helpful staff who clearly take pride in their offer. Food was absolutely delicious with several items on the menu made vegan upon request. We were made to feel very welcome. Lovely place to sit in or outside. Pasta is made fresh on site and local oats and salt are used in the process. So nice, we bought a bag to take with us. Fantastic all round. Will definitely be back!
