Good selection of food plus specials at a very reasonable price made the Hotel a great place to eat. A roaring fire and a friendly atmosphere in the bar made our trip perfect View all feedback.
We stayed here overnight on our way up to the highlands and what a very pleasant surprise it was. The hotel is just off the motorway but it is so peaceful. We was greeted by the son of the owner who was very polite and friendly. The rooms have been recently refurbished and are decorated very tastefully with tea making facility and there is also a tv. We ordered breakfast the following morning which was freshly cooked to perfection. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have booked to stay again during our next trip up to the highlands.
I stayed 16/10 for one night. when i checked in i received a warm greeting and a menu for breakfast for the following morning. i informed the staff that i was leaving early the next morning and that breakfast wouldn't be required. after a quick check they confirmed that my breakfast would be ready 40 mins earlier than normal. rooms where clean, warm and everything i needed for the short stay. i would definitely stay again.
Real ale choice was disappointing with just 1 hand-pump ale on, but we are living in odd times regarding public venturing out. Food average, rather like school dinners really, edible, but nothing special. My friend had sausages and vegetables, which he described as very average and lacking any style or taste. Veg is so reasonable to buy in and prepare, so why do pubs serve mean size portions of it ? carrots and cauliflower were the size of a mouse. Full marks though for fresh, it wasnt tined. Pleasant enough clean seating and spaced out tables. The Gents toilet is out of the 1960 's. I would return strangely as I would like to try it again. The decor is 'tired ' but allowances made, the place is surviving in hard times and its good that it is still open. Real ale and food are important in any town.
The food is all home cooked and of the highest quality and you get plenty!! The restaurant is cosy with a real fire giving a country inn atmosphere. There is a good choice for everyone and plenty of veggie options
The open fire in the bar draws most diners (and drinkers) to this part of the hotel. An eclectic decor offers something extra to look at. Home cooked food, and decent wines and beers at sensible prices. Breakfast is served in a separate room that is less to our liking. Having said that all is well bearing in mind the economical cost of dinner, drinks, bed and breakfast.
