Cajun Cafe - Duluth
Cajun Cafe
Description
Cajun Café is a small, family-run neighborhood spot praised for exceptional crawfish and a standout seafood gumbo, served in a calm, welcoming atmosphere with attentive, personal service. Diners note generous portions and reliable takeout, but experiences are mixed: a limited menu and inconsistent execution have produced underseasoned, overly salty or oily dishes, undercooked rice, and occasionally off beignets. Worth trying for seafood lovers who appreciate local charm, though expect variable quality on repeat visits.

Waiter was very attentive and friendly. Workers wore masks and checked in on us regularly. The portions were big and filling, also super tasty! Very great experience!
First time at this restaurant. First these are great people who care about their food and service. I had the grouper and it was cooked just right, my wife had the shrimp pasta and she enjoyed it. These are local owners so support them in these hard times.
The staff are well-mannered and professional... I was told that the chef spent 10 years cooking in a Louisiana style restaurant so I expected great tasting Cajun food. However, I feel the food had more of an Ethiopian flair than Louisiana. I ordered the spicy crawfish etouffee and also beignets, my mom ordered the Blackened Grouper Pontchartrain, and my younger sister ordered the seafood gumbo. The crawfish etouffee and grouper dishes were severely unseasoned. The beignets were over cooked/burnt around the edges. And the seafood gumbo did not have much seafood. I had high hopes for this restaurant; however, I was let down. All in all, I feel like $70 was thrown down the drain. I would not recommend.
The crawfish étouffée is simply amazing and the fried oysters were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The reviews are oh so accurate this is a must visit restaurant! I was ready for more before I even left!
It’s been a couple of weeks since my visit, but I was in the middle of moving when I finally checked out this hidden gem, and I really regret waiting so long since I’m now farther away. I went to Cajun Café specifically for the gumbo based on the reviews, and it did not disappoint! Oh my goodness, it was absolutely delicious! I had the seafood gumbo, and it could easily rival a restaurant in New Orleans that was voted best gumbo for eight consecutive years. The bread was excellent too, perfect for soaking up the leftover broth (check out the picture of the 'after'!). I highly recommend it!
