Description

A surprisingly pleasant air hub, this airport balances modern convenience with a calm, low-clutter atmosphere. Clean, easy-to-navigate terminals and sleek trains between gates complement plentiful dining, shopping and family-friendly touches like a children’s playground and a water fountain that tracks saved bottles. Staff are accommodating and signage is clear, though weekends and holidays bring crowds and parking can be pricey. While some arrival connections still rely on shuttles and a few ticketing areas feel dated, overall it’s efficient, visually appealing and a convenient international gateway to Washington, DC.

This is a fantastic spot to kick off your holiday travels. However, like any popular airport, it tends to get crowded during weekends and holidays. Don't let that discourage you from your journey! Arrive early to secure parking, as it fills up quickly. Expect slow traffic during both departures and arrivals.

Many pros and cons to this airport. Main reason to come here is it’s the closest international airport to Washington, DC. Relatively clean and nice. The monster truck buses as I call them are interesting to say the least. Trains take you to different terminals. Dedicated highway to get here is nice, but parking is expensive and hard to find a spot. Giant main terminal looks cool from inside and outside.

A nice airport if you're going through the security. Baggage claim and ticketing still see eerily 1960-ish, but once you go through the mile and train ride to the gates, you are hit with a pleasant surprise. Many dining options as well as shopping to get Snazzy souvenirs along with travel items. B-Terminal houses a children's playground next to restaurants such as Kicherenfil à and Wendys. Seat options are plentiful as long as the operation runs smoothly.

One of my favorite airports in the world! It's so efficient, clean, and easy to navigate. The staff and crew are very accommodating, and the service is excellent. Security checks are thorough, and the facilities are spotless. The restrooms are regularly maintained. During this trip, I was at the D-Gate; while I don't believe there are any lounges there, the waiting areas are convenient and easy to locate. I particularly love their water fountain that indicates how many plastic bottles you've saved by reusing or using a tumbler. It's a pleasure to be here!

The lengthy shuttles that once transported passengers between the airport and terminals have been replaced with sleek trains, although it’s curious that arriving passengers still have to use the shuttles. The terminals are clean and visually appealing, with plenty of easily navigable signage. Parking options are plentiful, with the choice to park close by for free or further away with shuttle service. The airport also boasts convenient access to the subway via the Dulles Toll Road (which is free for airport traffic) and usually offers smooth transit. There's even a new subway line being built that gets close to the airport, but for now, passengers must take a 5-minute shuttle ride to reach the subway station. There are many dining, shopping, and relaxation options available, making the airport a supportive environment during what can often be a stressful travel experience.
