The restaurant was highly recommended by the Hilton Hotel crew. Impressive, attentive service from start to finish and in between. Very personable crew and proprietor. I would rate the food as decent but not mind blowing. Very few dishes appealed to me but that's not their fault. However I did order a fish soup which came with small clams and little shrimps.. Tasty but no fish in it at all. Overall a well thought out menu. Recommended wine was superb. The olive oil and 12 year aged balsamic vinegar from Modena was amazing. The waiter actually gifted me a bottle of olive oil when I asked if they sell it. That's exceeding expectations!! So overall 5 star but on food and ambience more like a 4 star.
What is to say about 44. I mean, there's something better than extraordinary eating and an extraordinary experience. we have absolutely loved the aesthetics of waiting staff and the love for detail in the decor. we were pleasantly surprised to see the manager of the restaurant on TV. when we sat down first, was the first thing to meet the palate was a celebration in the mouth-I speak about teranino- the most amazing likör they will ever try. the waiting staff is very attentive and will ask them what their needs are, die and others. they cannot leave the restaurant without tasting the seafood risotto. the brot should die. it is freshly used by the grandma of the manager, the local dubrownik crumbled. we think their weeping list was extensive, but the recommendations were even more beautiful. if they want a climatic experience, they have to finish with the carrot cake (pictured here). as the other reviews mentioned, this is one of the best culinary experiences they will ever have. they will be with a kiss of local charm and forget that they have come all the way out of usa (usa, usa).
A welcoming and relaxed restaurant, which serves excellent dishes. My duck was succulent and my husband’s veal was juicy and the fish soup was wholesome, too. We learnt the background behind the name of the restaurant: it’s owned by a Croatian NBA basketball player whose number is 44. I recommend coming here for a pleasant dining experience.
Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant. The ambience was cozy, the service was unmatched and the food was most delicious. We had the Sea Bass fillet with chick peas and the Lamb chops. Both were presented very uniquely and were extremely tasty. We were also served with home made foccacia bread paired with a strong tasting extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Have to say that I have never tasted such good olive oil and balsamic vinegar EVER in my life! And no other bread throughout our stay at Dubrovnik tasted as good. Jasper and Matea were the best hosts ever entertaining us with very enlightening conversation. They truly cared. When we asked Jasper where we could buy the oil and the vinegar he told us that this product was made by a friend of his and was not sold in stores. But to our surprise and pleasure, he packed one for us as a gift when we were leaving the restaurant. In my many travels across the world, this was by far, one of the best restaurants i have eaten at. The combination of food, ambience and service is what made this really unique. Michelin should give this restaurant 3 stars IMO!
