Description

The Percy French offers a mixed dining experience, with disappointing dishes and slow service, but redeemed by delicious burgers, excellent Sunday lunch, and accommodating staff for large groups. The atmosphere is welcoming, with options for both meat-eaters and vegetarians. While some found the menu lacking and prices high, others appreciated the sea view and family-friendly atmosphere. Despite inconsistent quality and service charges, The Percy French remains a potential dining choice, especially for groups looking for a warm, friendly experience with good food overall.

A fantastic restaurant/bar located in the grounds of The Sleive Donard Hotel. Percy French has the look and feel of an old golf club house, timber frames on the ceiling, tv with sports on and a good range of traditional beers. We decided to visit Percy French after a long walk on Newcastle promenade mainly because of it's outside, dog friendly seating area. There's around 10 tables outside with a few covered tables at the front of the building. We only popped in for one drink but it was very nice and the atmosphere was great. There was large groups of families inside and the staff were extremely welcoming. There's also free wifi which is extremely important in the signal black spot that is Newcastle. I'd love to go back and try the food which looked sublime!

We had dinner at Percy French on our second evening at Slieve Donard in July 2024 and we greatly enjoyed our experience. It's a lovely restaurant with gorgeous views, attentive staff, and good food. I had the half roast chicken with champ and gravy, and served with a side of vegetables, which was broccolini and Snap peas. Others at the table got steak, burgers and fish and chips. I thought my food was good and especially enjoyed the champ and gravy. Everyone else said they enjoyed their meal as well. Overall it was about what I expected for a meal out on vacation in N Ireland; a bit pricey for good quality food in a lovely location. I would eat here again based on my experience.

Always had a soft spot for this place! Food good, view exceptional, staff very friendly and accommodating unlike those in the Lighthouse in the Hotel earlier! Highly recommend :

Great spot for good pub food on the waterfront, next to the hotel and spa. Had a delicious Caesar salad with roasted pulled chicken that was very hearty. Also a good bar for a libation before or after dinner.

Had the brief cheese and braised beef. Both were wondeful. The building is absolutely beautiful- lights were on a bit too high. Wine selection is small but priced great (we enjoyed our bottle very much!! Cant beat the view of the sea
