Monthly end, wallet almost empty. This very cheap Portuguese restaurant in Dortmund's North City is a good idea. We haven't been here for over 10 years. Location The North City: Predominantly five-storey construction, many houses still built around the turn of the century, the facades partly cunning boring, partly bold colored. An inconspicuous corner pub, a former German pub called Haus Grobe, I have been the domicile of a Portuguese family for decades. Mom cooks like before when one of us discovered the store at that time, and our clique pilgered so many evenings to sneak in original land-typical flair for a few DM. For us it was always like a jump into the Mediterranean. We're excited. How is it today? We march to the entrance of the grounded restaurant. Aha, in front of the house some Portuguese men smoke around and look curious. So today God thank you smoke-free! Ambience We enter. We haven't been here for over 10 years? Everything it was. A little dark, and the walls are yellow. The view immediately falls on the mighty curved vault with the old tile cladding. The curved old copper lights still dangle from the ceiling and illuminate the vault. Everywhere stands and hangs a lot of kitsch. The boss, who seems to be barely aged to the now wider Apex, turns behind the vault and serves the constantly changing predominantly Portuguese guests at the vase with beer from Portugal, coffee and other drinks. Right next to the Randale corner with two loud slot machines that are constantly fed by some Portuguese. Between the top of the wall a shelf with several cups. I'm looking to the left. Oh, it's time to come in here too! On a high, old, red fridge there is still a large TV, today a flat-screen TV and entertains all guests loudly with Portuguese TV programs whether they want or not. On the left side there is an old bumper double door, over it a long shelf, again with cups without end. Left the old uncomfortable benches, ugly brown lacquered and without soft padding. But we don't want to stay there. Tables with light brown resopal plates. Table decoration: No, you want to eat something and not watch table linen, flowers and candles. Closed, robust green plants on the slightly falling window benches. Behind the Schankraum is a medium-sized guest room, which is preferably also used by some Germans and many Portuguese as a dining room. Simple wooden seats. The tables with simple yellow fabric tablecloths, over white paper blankets of the roll to capture the looting of the guests. Then simple candlesticks and simple red paper napkins. The room is well filled upon arrival with hungry guests who already eat edible. As before, we prefer the front Tress room and expand at one of the tables, because here Portuguese life pulsates according to its originality. Service Flink comes a young, sympathetic Portuguese, cleanses our table of non-visible spots with a clean paper towel and brings the menu. He has an overview and reacts immediately when we make a wish. The size of the wine glasses can be adjusted with each round, but the content increases every time. Since my last glass has brought to our table until the last millimeter without sticking, it is still a secret for me. Clean red plastic cover in DIN A 5 with plastic inserts for printed food sheets. 3 soups (approx. € 3-4, 3 salads, 3 finger foods, 10 appetizers (from € 4 to € 11 for Gambas, 20 fish dishes (approx. € 9-12, 10 meat dishes (approx. € 9-12, 5 desserts and a few dishes I no longer know). You have no website. At the same time we order a large mineral water with carbonic acid (0.75 l from Ardey to 3 € and two glasses of open, dry, simple white wine (especially gifted 0.1 l to 1.50 €). Our food Against the first hunger there are fresh, warm, peasant white bread with a large hole pattern and a delicious fresh garlic parsley, class! Some Italians can learn from it with their boring, sometimes slightly rancid herbal butter. The nostalgic clover is the old porcelain bread plates from Seltmann Weiden, which can only be found today on the Toad markets – if you are lucky. The rich cutlery was thrown together creatively. Simple white paper napkins. Gambas in garlic oil (10 € Seven hot gambas in a small brown run-up form, flavored with a lot of olive oil, garlic, brandy and anchovis. Completely freed from the intestine and without shells. The thicker things are still slightly glazed, the thinners are unfortunately somewhat dry. In taste through the anchovis slightly salty. So we knew this court earlier. Mmmm, the taste of the whole Mediterranean unites in this appetizer! Grilled sardines (8,50 € Five really thick sardines, each estimated 15 cm long, are located on the large red and white treasure of the plates, accompanied by three thick, semi-finished, floury salt potatoes, two quartered lemons and for the pose two salad leaves. There is a small rustic salad of iceberg salad, cucumber slices, tomato slices, thick half rings of onions and vinegar oil dressing. An old meagerie with salt, pepper, vinegar and oil completes the incredible arrangement. My accompaniment, expert in the filtration of fish, bends over the plate, absorbs the smell of herbs and garlic and releases immediately. Ratzfatz the fish are freed from the fine bones and the bones are transported to the bread plate, and the essayer is empty. Perfectly grilled and not dry, which is not easy for sardines. Chicken in a clay pot (9,50 €) The chicken is in a large brown tonnage, four large parts with bones, swollen in a broth and tomato brews right, but still very juicy in consistency. The meat was freed from the bones. Rustic, but very aromatic. Also three thick, halved, floury salt potatoes that suck the strong sauce wonderfully. For better consumption, the young, charming Portuguese has placed a white plate in front of me. I just tied up once in the transport from form to plate! Thank you to the Resopaltic! Conclusion Anyone who appreciates the special charm of this simple restaurant is warmly served here and can enjoy grounded, simple but aromatic treasures from Portuguese cuisine for little money. Explanation of points Food: 4 points because it is a floor-to-ceiling, typical country, although simple, but very tasty and honest cuisine. Current opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday kitchen closed 15 am to 5 pm.
