While some patrons sing praises of the carvery, highlighting generous portions and flavorful offerings, others lament the declining food quality and unsatisfactory service. Comments on tough steaks, inconsistent allergy protocols, and exorbitant prices for lackluster meals paint a troubling picture. Even family-friendly features are met with criticisms, such as a ridiculous charge for infants in play areas. However, the ambiance remains inviting, and many agree that the drinks are worth savoring. Ultimately, diners are split on whether to return or seek alternatives.
I'm here a few times and this has never disappointed us. the menu is very good to decide. highly recommended
Fish and ships very well cooked and well served. friendly staff, cozy place. I love it
I always liked this place and will go back. it is their beautiful typical pub duve, beautiful atmosphere, play area for the children, makes a great carvery and fantastic choice on the children's menu. can be a bit row-shaped, but all in all a great place to dinate
We booked to stay here after receiving a Hotel Voucher as a gift. We weren't expecting much but when we got here we were pleasantly suprised. The setting is vert pretty. Towards the rear of the car park there is access to the river where you can take a stroll. Across the other side of the car park is the restaurant and pub. We didn't eat here so I cannot comment on the food but we did have a drink and sit outside. As it's open to those outside of the Hotel it was quite busy but we still got served in a timely manner. The Hotel itself albeit quite old fashion compared to some was clean and had all the basics, a TV of a reasonable size and a walk in shower. This Hotel is about 20 mins from Meadowhall and 45 mins from York. Ideal for us. You also get use of the local swimming and leisure facilities in the sports centre around the corner.
Me and my da had a mixed grill each. They couldn't cook the steak for anything, but the rest of it was largely very good. Not as cheap as they used to be though, getting a bit on the empty side.. this might explain why they only had like 15 guests in the entire building. Would be a shame to see them go, they've been a part of the community for decades.
