The hut is now open in winter, and on a clear day it gives you unique views of the alps. A 2hrs walk with 700mt climb keep out the mass tourists and set you back to the real spirit of the mountain. View all feedback.
Well what can I say? The 2 and half hour climb was not for the faint hearted and snow and ice certainly made it even that bit harder to reach the top but when you finally do (the last 400 meters are terrible) boy is it worth it!!!! The view alone will blow you away!!!! The refuge is not very big so be prepared to share a table with other people but it is fun as you get to share the experience of your climb. We had a big slice of their warm apple strudel and gulped down hot punch as neede to recover from the -13 temperature outside, but they also serve really nice and simple South tyro lean food. If you do make it up there make the most of it
We took the train from Villabassa to Toblach and joined Alquin from Globo Alpin for the drive up to Kandellen (1600) to begin the hike up to a forest, crossing the Volanbach to Heuschupfe and upwards to Bonnerhütte (2307). Along the way Alquin pointed out various animal tracks and plant life. We were the only English in the small group and it was so charming how patient and helpful the others were with the language translation. The views from the terrace to the Sexten Dolomites and the Haunoldgruppe Pragser mountains were completely breathtaking. It had been quite a stiff climb and we were ready for some refreshment. Inside the hut, delicious aromas and welcome warm friendly greeting were so surprising we couldn’t quite believe how they got all the necessary supplies up to this remote place. This was a day to remember.

After a lovely hike up with a group of friends we treated ourselves to a coffee and cake at this Rifugio. We had sampled various desserts, strudels and cakes in the area. The strawberry cake here won the outright prize and the chocolate cake came second. I asked for the recipe but it was a well guarded secret!! Portion sizes were very generous. Very good coffee also This has a very cosy interior with very friendly staff and the terrace has spectacular views . I'd hike right back up there now just for a slice of that cake
After you've walked here the view is your reward but you have to treat yourself to a great cappuccino and piece of cake. There is a fabulous terrace and an inviting interior. It was a hard climb but I would definitely do it again.
