This restaurant is housed in a magnificent stately home that offers plenty to explore, both inside and out. Many of the rooms are filled with furniture and personal items that create an intimate and mysterious atmosphere. The room steward is very knowledgeable and can answer any questions you may have. Additionally, there is a lovely gift shop stocked with tasteful items for the home, as well as local beers, jams, chutneys, biscuits, and sweets. The grounds are expansive, featuring beautiful walking paths, lovely gardens, and The Cage, a hunting lodge situated on a hill. You'll also find a charming small orangery filled with tropical plants. For a break, there's a café where you can enjoy homemade cakes.
The place is absolutely beautiful! However, the children's playground was closed for renovations during our visit. Nonetheless, we will definitely return! There's something for everyone here. It's perfect for hiking, enjoying coffee and ice cream, and taking a leisurely stroll through the house and gardens. The kids have a free play area with a lovely touch — they provide balance bikes for small children. My little one had a great time on his first balance bike ride!
This place is beautifully authentic and ideal for a stroll on a sunny day. There are plenty of paths to explore, although many of them are hilly, some quite steep. You can also visit the gardens and the house. The outdoor area is a fantastic spot for lunch.
A beautiful place to come. the volunteers and employees are so beautiful. the house is absolutely stunning and fascinating. the orangery has some exotic plants. the gardens and the forest area are huge and can be swung around. the caffe, shops, takeaway and toilets are all brilliant, clean and a good selection of items. a wonderful place for a day. one of my favorites.
What a wonderful house and massive grounds, far too much to take in, in just one day. We will have to visit it again in the future. The weather was kind to us on our visit but most of the day could be spent inside the house and cafés. It was surreal looking over the distant vista of the city of Manchester Stockport from the hills surrounding the house. Well worth a visit.
