Ambrosia - Dishpur

We were looking for a traditional Assamese/Bengali restaurant during our short stay at Guwahati. Ambrosia topped the list on Zomato among the places close by, so we came over!The restaurant is large, decently lit, but not crowded at all. Maybe because of it being weekdays, fewer people showed up. The staff is very polite and courteous. However, service times are on the slower side.Getting to the food, though the menu has North Indian, Tandoor and Assamese/Bengali cuisines on offer, we chose to simply ignore North Indian and Tandoor items and headed straight to the local cuisine options. All items ordered were non-vegetarian, and one better than the other! Patot Dia Mas is a must on every visit. This is a signature fish dish, with fish pieces wrapped in a leaf and steamed with spices. Mouth-wateringly delicious! Home-style chicken and mutton dishes were also ordered, they were nice. Lanka Bhapa Murgi is a must have as well. Very well cooked and delicious chicken! The icing on the cake was the Fish Fry Kolkata Style. Ohh man! Small finger sized whole fish (with eyes), crispy fried, to be eaten whole! No bones at all. At first, it was a lil crazy to think of eating whole fish (with eyes looking at you), but once you have the first one, there's no looking back! Simply awesome! Best dish on offer, in my opinion! :) We also tried the Dab Chingri, which is river prawns cooked inside tender coconut. Blissful! Another must have!So many delectable dishes prompted us to revisit Ambrosia for dinner the next night as well. And we had all the same items. Best meals during our stay at Guwahati! The place is located on GS Road and serves good Indian food... the service was good and the ambience are OK..

The place is sort of run down, the service was painfully slow and the bathroom not good. Though we were a large party, it shouldn't have been that slow. Incense was burning when we got there. We asked them to turn it off.
