What Herbie-Green doesn't like about Askews Bakery:
The attraction of this cafe is the food superb cakes of all types, lovely sweet and savoury pastries, and great sandwiches. However, the coffee, which is really what I went in for is pretty poor no better than instant, thin and with no real taste. Go for the food. View all feedback.
We was in crickhowell village as we were visiting dentist. We popped into Mailflour Bakery/Andrews to get a drink a bite to eat for my grandaughter I was discriminated against challenged because I have asthma unable to wear a mask. I was told to leave the shop.So be aware this bakery discriminates people I will be reporting to relevant departments. So if you are exempt from wearing a mask avoid this shop.
Excellent freshly made sandwiches, baps and baguettes and wide selection of sweet bakery items. They accept pre-day orders for walker's packed lunches. Very reasonably priced and good alternative to your accommodation packed lunches.
Stop off here, buy an ice cream you will not regret it. Highly recommended to start a Crickhowell break
Anyone visiting Crickhowell must not miss going into Askews Bakery.....Its amazing the counter, which stretches the full length of the shop is packed with every kind of cake and savoury item you can imagine, from homemade apple pies to eccles cakes, and 5he custard slices are to die for.It was very different visiting this time, due to the restrictions because of the vivid virus,no seating for coffee etc was allowed. Usually there is a shopful of customers, but now only three are allowed in at a time. The staff work quickly and with a smile.Back to base to eat my cakes!
Sadly the staff at Askews let down the friendly reputation of Crickhowell. The staff at the rest of the Crickhowell high street shops always seem welcoming, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately Askews' staff are unwelcoming, unfriendly and appear rude in their abruptness. This would, perhaps, be forgivable if they are rushed off their feet with customers waiting for service, but the times I have encountered this has been when they have appeared to be quiet. I leave feeling that I have been a nuisance to them. They do not seem to comprehend the concept that a customer needs time to choose what they want to buy and if they were to readily allow for this they would probably sell more produce. As it was I felt that I couldn't choose fast enough and they wanted me to leave, despite only having been there about 2 minutes! Why aren't the management doing something about improving their staff's attitudes and customer service skills? I see that a 2019 review also commented on staff rudeness! Come on Askews get your act together and in line with the other lovely businesses in Crickhowell.
