Lovely restuarant, great spot on the port itself and superb food. We had mains from the specials board, all in french but wasnt a bother as staff were in hand to help muddle through broken French and English, kids menu was lite but restuarant were understanding very hospitable and accomodating, service throughout was great. Definitely recommend for couples, friends or families. View all feedback.
What wattamaggie doesn't like about Chez Bongrain:
We have been here in previous years and really enjoyed it. Last night the owner was not present. Our main course was a disaster. It was a 'cod ' dish a piece of white fish with very large bones placed on a jacket potato and a wedge of cabbage in what seemed to be cabbage cooking water laced with a few black olives. the fish was inedible. We came to this restaurant by chance, having found that the pizza place round the corner was closed (even though we had a booking! Thankfully this delightfully rustic restaurant was opened and could accommodate us. We ordered the homemade burgers with oozing cheese, streaky bacon and sun dried tomatoes and a glass of wine each. The chips were also homemade and the portions certainly big enough to fill up my hungry brother. The owner is a real character, cheerful and attentive. We spotted a couple of dishes on other tables looking very appetising and promised ourselves we will be back to try more of those. As the place is only small bookings are recommended.
Warm and family welcome we followed without regret the advice of the waitress, showing that the fresh products very pleasant and relaxed team that has tjrs a little word for laughter passing in front of our table a real moment of pleasure. perhaps thanks to its Auvergne origins, especially a small village life!. we will not hesitate to come back, it is on!!!
