Around Les Halles there are many restaurants, all with a small terrace facing the market. This restaurant has also a large dining room inside. Standard offer of set menus € 25-30) as in other restaurants of the area. We ate well, dishes were well presented with good portions. I agree with other reviewers: some smile would have been appreciated.
We were recommended this place by our hotel and the taxi driver who took us there. Not sure what experience they have had but ours was awful. The 2 waiters were grumpy and did not offer any help whatsoever with the all French menu . I haven 't got a problem with a menu in native tongue but as we were clearly English, it would be good practice to at least ask if we wanted any help. However, the 4 of us decided to all go for the entrecôte steaks. Now, I 've had entrecôte steak all over the world and this was the worst I 've ever had. It didn 't help when the waiter bringing it to our table, spilt meat juice down the back and arm of one of our party and didn 't even apologise. He just went to get what looked like a wet flannel and wiped the arm down (of the 14 year old girl -weird! When the other waiter asked if everything was ok, I pointed out that one particular steak was not great, to which he shrugged his shoulders and left. When he came to take the plates away and could clearly see there was a great deal of grissly meat still left he didn 't even ask if it was ok. Clearly NOT INTERESTED! 4 steaks, 2 glasses of house wine and a bottle of water €133!!! Jokers! Avoid.
The market square in Dijon is ringed by restaurants and you are spoilt for choice. We chose this because it featured a dish I really wanted (poulet de Bresse) it was quite empty which should have been a sign. The whole approach of the staff was strange aloof and not at all friendly. At one point they bickered amongst themselves about who should serve the wine very strange. Having said this the food was very good and overall decent value for money although the wine is expensive. This feels like a place in need of strong management front of house, if the service can catch up with the food it would be good as it is it doesn't quite work.
I visited this place on the 3rd of January, this was one of the very least restaurants, which was open at 20.30. It made a nice first impression, very nice interriors and we were still able to get a table without a reservation. First of all, all of the wine prices are starting from 30€, but as long as it tastes... The one bourgound white wine was the champion of the table, very delicious, dry yet fruity and less acidic. Perfect wine! We went for escargots as a starter, unfortunately they were below the average and might even be the worst I had! After that the dry aging fridge got our attention and we went for some steaks, this was a biggest mistake. Even though I ordered a medium, I got a well-done one and strangely it was covered with good amount of butter, somehow I couldn't taste much of the meat, so they knew the meat was bad and they tried to decieve us for a 25€. We skipped the desert and headed our hotel and then the nightmare of food poisioning has started. Please be aware of what you have on your plate, this is not an honest restaurant to begin with!
We ate here on a slow night only three or four tables filled in the whole place. The service was good, and both gentlemen attending us seemed interested in our satisfaction. We shared a large steak, which was of good quality and well cooked. I thought the sides were well presented and tasty. The wine was excellent and was appropriately priced. We weren't disappointed. Reading the other reviews, it seems that L'impressioniste has an approach to preparation and presentation that works for a one night experience.
