This place serves authentic bengali food. Ambiance is awesome and food was good. Liked the decor very much. Only problem is that they do not serve Al a carte. They serve only Thalis which are a bit pricey. View all feedback.
What Pradip B doesn't like about Sonartori - Ganga Kutir:
We (4 adults and one child) went for Lunch on 26th December 2019. The Ambience is good, Heritage is maintained. But the points are: 1. Cannot rate the Food as Excellent. There was no choice of Fish, only Pomfrate was available, which none of us take. The Chicken pieces were very small. 2. It was raining on that day. Restaurant should keep some umbrellas for the diners to go back and those can always be collected back... View all feedback.
We went on a family lunch. The atmosphere is extremely wonderful. The restaurant is decorated with all the creations of Rabindranath and will let u feel the simplicity of rural life, yet it has got all the modern day amenities. For example, the washroom looks to be shabby by appearance but has got every facility. Coming to the food, you have not many things to choose from. They serve 3 types of combinations (1 veg and 2 non-veg). However, the food is awesome and you will love it. From luchi-cholar dal to misti doi, each and every Bengali delicacy is present. According to me, it would have been great if ala carte menu with multiple fish-dishes was present .
I went to Sonar Tori Ganga Kutir in Raichak with my mother wife and 2 sons. It was a lovely experience. My sons played in the lawns. There were lovely ponds with lotuses. The ganges view on one side was lovely. The food served in lunch in the form of vegetarian and non vegetarian thali was awesome. There was lovely pulao, shukto, dal parshe fish curry, rasgulla, curd, ghol, chutney, jhinge posto karaishuti kachori, chicken curry. Food was awesome. Tagore's poetry was engraved on the walls. It was a masterpiece.
We were traveling to Raichak for the long weekend, all the way from Delhi :) Sonar Tori is 1 of the 7 restaurants this property owns. The food was good. Service is slow as we could jus see 1 waiter. They do not let u really share the thali, even though the thali is not refilled or a buffet. If they had buffet i could understand not letting people share (but anyways). Hence incase you have a small appetite a lot of food will get wasted. But on a god note, we were 3 adults they did allow 2 thalis. Food is good, and quantity is appropriate for a person with a good appetite. The decor is amazing.. U shd definitely visit once incase you are visiting Raichak.
The place is decorated with the theme of old zamindari fashion along with photos and writings of Tagore. The view of the Ganges from the restaurant was good. Regarding the food, the quantity was more than enough. But quality wise it did not meet the expectations. The taste of each and every item was simply awful. It seems that the cook does not have any idea of cooking Bengali food. Because of bad taste we could not take Kadaier dal . It was served with Jhinge Posto with gravy, instead of dry aloo posto. The Sukto was full of coconut oil without any taste of Uchhe or Karola. The non-veg dishes were equally bad.The service was very slow. We had to remind the waiters time and again. Highly disappointing experience.
As soon as you enter, you feel the rusticity of the place. It is artistic and beautiful. Every corner of the place, the restuarant and the sitting area to the washroom has that vintage rustic look and feel and it's beautiful. The restaurant is wonderful and the bengali thali is delicious. Only bummer is that restuarant has a very limited menu, it just offers thali and nothing else. Also the pricing is a bit on the higher side.
